The sun had risen shining grandly over the hills and fields of neighboring farms. The drought they had been facing earlier had met with heavy rain last night and sunshine brought on the morning dew. The world glittered all around in simple beauty in the early morning for the people of the rural district. The sun continued to rise beckoning the laborers and farmers to wake and arise for the next day had come. Over by the humble Authern homestead, Loretta stirred from the sun shining upon her face as it peaked through a small opening made in the wall that acted as a small window. Recalling last night, a blush crept up on her only to brighten at the sound of her younger sister Elanor.
"Why so red this morning?" She teased lightheartedly. "Did something haaaaapen at the Pub?" Elanor smirked a tad dyviously at the expense of Loretta's flushing as she burrowed her face into her pillow. No matter how hard she tried, she could never tell a straight lie, and Elanor can see right through her. "Come on now, tell me everything! Was he tall? Was he cute? Handsome? Did he ask you out for a night? Come on Lorr, spill it all!" Elanor may be the younger of the two but was fiercely protective of her older and much gentler sister. She smiled and ruffled Loretta's hair as a show of her affection. "You can tell me about him later, but if he so much as makes you shed a tear he'll be havin' a word with me.." Looking up to her younger sister with horror written on her face. Loretta shot out of bed and took Elanor into her arms.
"Ella, that is no way for a lady to behave!" Loretta had been taking time whenever she could to help Elanor to become properly hire-able but mostly ended in vain. Almost all of Etirath refused to take the girl in as she was too clumsy and ill-mannered and very much not like most girls her age should behave. "Mother would have your head for sure if she heard."
"Mother would have yours if you don't find a suitor by the time you are her age.." And with that Elanor laughed and ran off before Loretta could get a hold of her.
"My, my.. Aren't we all just lively this morn?" Eleanor, their mother, had spied Elanor rushing out the house. She along with Lia stayed in the kitchen where she cleaned up after breakfast that was had without her. "Good morning Loretta. Breakfast is still on the table, I didn't want to disturb you after your late night at.. The Horse Head was it? It's quite a long walk dear, are you sure about it?"
"Thank you mother," Loretta had gone over to the basin of water and placed it over the stove to heat for her washing later after she was done with her meal. "And yes I'm sure. They were very caring folk and so kind to me." She smiled as she ate her scrambled eggs with a slice of bread. A small clay cup filled with fresh milk was refreshing as she downed it. She was quick to clean up after herself and washed the dishes before her mother could. "The meal was wonderful as always." She called out to her before she herself was ready for the day ahead of her. Eleanor smiled before leaving to grab something. A change of clothes for Loretta and folded neatly on top was the green tunic she had come home in.
"Yes, now off you go, get washed up and proper. I hope to meet this young man that caught your eye though.." Eleanor smiled in good fun and Lia watched in confusion as she tried to understand who this mystery man was.
"Mother!?" Loretta blushed a bright red only for it to darken when her mother laughed. "Please.. It's only dinner." Her ears turned red thinking about it and what her mother could possibly be thinking as well. Her mother held a knowing smile and took Lia by the hand as they would leave to do their own chores for the day. Before her mother was out the door she turned to her and spoke with that knowing smile still there.
"You may think it that, but it never really is just a dinner." And just like that she was gone. Loretta, embarrassed that not only is her sister involved, but her mother is in on it too!
After her morning spent in the market bartering her parents' produce and returning home with a sack of oats that would last them for a week if used sparingly, Loretta stayed behind to help prepare the meal but rather than 6 mouths to be fed, only 5 will be present for dinner. Harold, her father, held her in an embrace and kissed the top of her head. It was a blessing in his own way to keep her safe. To have her back home happy rather than in tears. He prayed to Milova to look after and protect her precious and gentle heart. And then she was gone, no longer his little girl anymore. Loretta had grown into a fine young woman and he was proud.
Loretta, no longer bound by duty for the day had set off for the upper district. The sun had begun to set as Loretta trekked the winding dirt path up the mountain side. She took care to avoid The inn as she traversed through the middle district. Entering the upper district Loretta found herself recognizing some of the area from last night when she and Ariani walked together to drop her off first mainly because she was concerned for her balance. As it was, Ari lived in the upper district so it wasn't much of detour. In fact it was right on the way home.
The sun had already set when she reached the pub. As she walked up to the door, Loretta noticed Eoin was not anywhere in sight or anywhere near where she first met him. Perhaps she was too early? Or maybe too late? She started to feel nervous, the fluttery feeling back in her stomach as her thoughts spun with negativity. She worried she wasn't dressed proper for the dinner and began to wonder if maybe she was underdressed for the occasion. She didn't own anything fancy, nor could she afford jewelry. She had her fresh clothes, a green skirt and white peasant blouse with her black corset over it. Simple and decent yes. Thankfully no mud was stuck to her brown ankle boots, so she needn't worry in tracking mud inside. She tightened the green ribbon in her hair as it had almost come undone in her brisk walk over.
With only one thing left to do. She knocked on the door tentatively. No way could anyone have heard such light knocking in her life! And even if it was too light for Eoin to hear, Loretta couldn't bring herself to knock any louder. Instead she waited patiently and quietly by the door afraid to knock again... Maybe just one more to be sure? She hesitated a moment before she worked the courage to knock once more. Just as she raised a hand, the door seemed to have opened on their own which frightened Loretta as she nearly jumped out of her skin, the tiniest of squeaks escaping past her lips.

Eoin rested beneath a tree in the garden as the sun began to peak over the horizon. A pan flute in his hands, he gently blew out the notes of the wind to the garden. Within the music held a certain, magical quality that would keep the garden nourished and growing, even in the absence of water.
The garden was always well taken care of by its caretakers. However, Eoin found it therapeutic to himself to play the small instrument. It had been hand-carved by his mother and given to him as a gift. The sounds brought him back to a simpler time, long ago, when the creatures of the forest flourished among the magic of Azalea and Sympati. From the corners of his half closed eyes he could see the shapes of children as they danced among the flowers. He'd dare not look up, lest the figures of children who were never given the chance to grow up would disappear with his memories.
Once the sun had just finished rising above the hills to show it's full glory, Eoin would stand, set his flute down, and make his way towards the pub where he worked. Today was his only off day, yet typically still he'd go to the public house to kill time til the next day. However, this was not typical day. Upon arrival, the very first thing he'd do was set aside his books on Druidry so that they'd not distract him.
Then the cleaning began. Sweeping every floor, wiping down every cabinet, table, and chair. He put away every glass and cleaned every dish. Pulling out one of the nice tables and the two nicest chairs, he set them in the middle of the pub and began preparing them. Taking the nicest, white table cloth, he dressed the table and laid out the silverware. As he was doing so in complete silence, Eoin glanced up and spotted Ariani 'hiding' behind a corner.
Ears flicking back, he asked in a less than kind tone, "What are you doing Ariani?" Grinning, the woman popped out and responded, "E'ery good date needs a waitress! 'Hoo better than meself?" Eoin sighed, there was no getting rid of her without being unnecessarily mean. Therefore he'd leave her, so long as she didn't disturb his cooking. Waved off, Ari giggled uncontrollably and scurried off, muttering something about 'shirts' as she did so. Silly girl.
Turning towards the kitchen, he checked the time by looking out the window at the sun before lighting the fires. Placing two pans aside to use, he decided what he was going to make and began preparing the ingredients. He began by patting a few filets of catfish dry and sprinkling salt and pepper atop them. He then covered the catfish in flour, removing any excess after withdrawing them. Placing a dash of oil and butter in one of the pans, he placed it over the fire and added the fish. Sautéing both sides, he removed the fish and placed it in a seperate, covered pan.
As he contemplated a sauce, he used the same pan, added garlic to the oil, and cooked until golden brown. Temporarily pulling it off the heat, he added red wine, lemon zest and lemon juice before returning it to the heat with salt and pepper. There would be sauce.
Tossing a small bowl of greens while the wine reduced, he rolled the salad in a very light dressing of olive oil, salt and pepper. Returning to the fish, he served it out on two plates and added the tossed greens. Finally, he added a spoonful of butter to the reduced wine sauce, melted it, stirred, then poured the reduced wine sauce over the fish.
It was then, as he walked towards the table with the food, that Loretta poked her head into the pub. Trying, and failing, at a smile, he placed down the plates and said, "I just threw this together, I apologize that it's not much." It was then that Loretta would realize what Eoin did not. While the faun did, indeed, put on trousers that morning lest the guard question him about 'decency' and other nonsensical things, he wore no shirt. If there was one thing Eoin would do if given the chance, it was cease wearing shirts.
Removing his hat from his curling black hair, the faun moved around the table and pulled out a chair for Loretta.

Loretta had poked her head inside and gasped quietly to herself. A table was set beautifully in the center of the dim pub with candles placed about for lighting. The gorgeous arrangement was pleasing to the eye. A wonderful scent that tantalized her senses wafted over, calling for her to come and enjoy the meal Eoin had prepared. Oh how delicious it smelled! As she came inside and shut the door behind herself, Eoin had attempted a smile for her, which came out a bit crooked, though she didn't mind and smiled her own timid one back.
A hint of a blush crept on her cheeks as she noted his shirtless torso once again. She knew it was rude to stare but she was just so darn curious of the tattoos that littered his body... along with never seeing men shirtless in general. Except just yesterday when she first met Eoin. Her thoughts were broken when he had spoken to her.
"I just threw this together, I apologize that it's not much." He said as he pulled out a seat she guessed meant for her to take. And again he apologized to her even though he shouldn't have to, nor needed to. She wondered perhaps he doesn't realize it or something of the like. But in the end, to her, it shows how thoughtful he is.
"Oh it's more than enough!" She had genuinely meant it and her smile widened as well. And truly it was. Enough to feed her twice a day in fact. Quickly, Loretta took her seat so as not to make Eoin wait on her even more than he had already. As she sat down on the seat another blush formed and felt a flutter in her chest. She was so close to Eoin she could feel her hair brush and tickle against him. She tried not to think about it and nervously spoke,
"A-and everything looks so lovely." She complimented noticing the care Eoin had taken to make dinner presentable. The silverware shone brightly beneath the candlelight, like it was glittering. The salad and fillets held fresh appeal and looked amazing. Such skill in the kitchen could put anyone to shame. And she could only hope to match such skills. Suddenly a question had popped in her mind and she tilted her head to the side as to glance up at him.
"Do you cook often?" She asked without thinking and realizing what she had said. Her eyes widened and she quickly turned away hiding her face as she became red with shame and embarrassment. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.. question uhm-" she stopped herself and thought furiously for a better way to phrase her thoughts. "Oh gods.." she mumbled as anything she could say could be taken the wrong way. "Uhm.. do you like it? Cooking that is.." Oh how stupid she was! She would ruin the evening for sure!

Eoin smiled at Loretta's shyness, though he realized not that she found herself in an uncomfortable situation with his shirtless form. In his mind, he was wearing uncomfortable pants and therefore as clothed as his body would allow him without completely distracting him. When her hair brushed against his chest, he found it oddly more scratchy than ticklish. It was an uncomfortable feeling, but a strange kind that he wouldn't mind feeling again. He stood there for a moment, hovering near Loretta's hair before tearing himself away to let her scoot up as she wanted.
As Ari found an excuse to approach with drinks, Eoin unconsciously moved to place a hand on her shoulder to steady her. Ari placed two glasses of wine on the table and giggled once more after Eoin released her to sit down. Ariani found the entire situation highly entertaining and retreated to a corner of the pub to spy on the two.
Without a thought, Eoin sat down and began eating. It was only upon the first bite of food that he realized how hungry he was. Resisting the urge to eat quickly, he looked up at Loretta as she asked her question. Shrugging, he stopped eating to reply, "I don't dislike it, but I don't cook often, no. Cooking is one of those things I enjoy doing when I decide I enjoy doing it. I could never do it here, for a living. Probably would suck all of the enjoyment out for me."
Continuing to eat, he thought for a few moments before asking, "How about you, do you like cooking? I mean, you'll be doing it here, but do you really enjoy it?" There was something about conversation that just came so naturally and easily to Eoin. He never found himself having trouble speaking to people, for the most part. However, that aside, touching people caused him great anxiety.
Punching someone in the face was easy, or or bashing a hoof into their stomach. However, hugging, a gentle nudge, a playful tap, these things off put him more than words could describe. He shuddered away from even the most friendly of drunken back pats, restraining himself often from decking customers who came close to him. Unfortunately, after the first incident, Alek had informed him he would need to curb his 'don't touch me' attitude or get a different job. In his memory it was one of the only times Alek had been 'hard assed' with him. She had the tendency to make her lightest requests sound like demands, not that he minded too much.
As his mind wandered, he found himself gazing into Loretta's deep brown eyes. Losing himself to absent-minded thought in her beautiful windows to the soul. Shaking his head, he snapped back to reality and muttered an apology.

(I'd type more but losing brain function)
Once Eoin had moved away, Loretta nervously released the breath of air she had been holding without realizing it. Ari had managed to come over without spilling or falling and set the glasses down. Loretta smiled and gestured a tiny wave to the girl as Eoin held her upright. She was slightly more at ease seeing Ari there, and soon relaxed in her seat, scooting closer to the table as Eoin sat. Ari left, possibly to spy on them from afar, and Eoin dug in leaving Loretta to follow after him taking the tiniest bites as he answered her with a shrug at first. "I don't dislike it, but I don't cook often, no. Cooking is one of those things I enjoy doing when I decide I enjoy doing it. I could never do it here, for a living. Probably would suck all of the enjoyment out for me."
"I see.." She mumbled to herself in understanding but mostly due to loss of focus as the savory fillet and bits of salad entered her mouth. She unconsciously placed a hand to her cheek in tiny amazement her face saying it all how wonderful it was to her. Such flavors and lo, a single taste had her salivate for more! She would most definitely savor every bite and have it last as long as she could dare to appreciate the dish wholly. She happily took another bite and chewed as slowly as she could allow herself to. It was then Eoin had looked to her asking his own question back.
"How about you, do you like cooking? I mean, you'll be doing it here, but do you really enjoy it?" Loretta nodded and smiled and began to talk about how she loves to cook and learn new recipes when she can and of how she would watch others in hopes to learn something from them without directly being in the way. She loved sharing her gifts to the world and even more so when they return with their appreciation. And on she rambled with small passion.
"I love seeing their faces light up.. seeing them enjoy it.. what I.. made for them wholeheartedly.." At first she didn't notice Eoin staring deeply into her eyes until she was gazing right back into his own lovely brown eyes. Eyes widened and a blush formed after as she nearly jumped in her seat. He shook his head after and the two had muttered an apology to each other at the same time.
She took several more bites, nearly half done with it, and tried to think up other conversation topics. "Do you have other interests or hobbies you enjoy? Not that I mean you don't.. err.." Her cheeks warmed though not as noticeable as her previous blush. "And what is it that you usually do on a day like today?"

Eoin was not, unfortunately, a slow eater. Before him laid a plate of food he most certainly enjoyed, therefore he would waste no time in consuming it. While he by no means 'inhaled' his food, he certainly did not relish it in a manner his mother would have approved of. As he listened to Loretta, he nodded understandingly as she talked about making food for others. Eoin felt the same, though about people he knew and liked instead of strangers. The Faun was certainly not the most 'welcoming' of people when it came to people he did not know, Loretta was a rare and beautiful exception.
When Loretta asked about his hobbies, Eoin hesitated. Part of him thought he should lie, say something about how he did some super-interesting thing like fight crime in his spare time. But he knew from experience that lying tended to not yield the greatest results. He noticed Loretta's blush, he noticed everything, or at least tried. He found it cute. Shrugging, he set his fork aside and pushed the plate to the side as he spoke, "I don't do much. Let's just say I felt I've already lived a 'full life.' I'll live another in a few decades, but for now, I'm on down time. Typically, I'd either take a walk around the city, read a book, or play the flute in the garden to practice druidry. I'm, not exactly the most nature-attuned Faun."
Scratching the back of his head, he chuckled lightheartedly and added, "Heh, can't imagine what mom would think if she were still around. My parents always were ones for being 'one with nature.' I preferred to practice fighting, not that it did me too much good nowadays."

Loretta continued to eat as Eoin spoke. Her plate nearly done now that she no longer ran her mouth. "I don't do much. Let's just say I felt I've already lived a 'full life.' I'll live another in a few decades, but for now, I'm on down time. Typically, I'd either take a walk around the city, read a book, or play the flute in the garden to practice druidry. I'm, not exactly the most nature-attuned Faun." Loretta smiled as her head filled with images of Eoin reading a book in the city square and playing the flute in a beautiful garden as the flora danced swaying to his song. She didn't quite catch on that the faun lives longer than usual and assumed he had meant that his life was full from the start and enough to fill a life time over.
"That sounds quite lovely.." she sighed as she thought about it. "I wish I had the leisure time for such hobbies."
Eoin then scratched the back of his head as he thought of something. He chuckled lightheartedly before continuing, "Heh, can't imagine what mom would think if she were still around. My parents always were ones for being 'one with nature.' I preferred to practice fighting, not that it did me too much good nowadays."
If she were still around
Loretta understood what he had meant and her face nearly fell. How long was he without a mother? When was the last time he was held in a loving embrace filled with unconditional love? How long has it been since he shared a meal with his mother. All these thoughts and more crossed her mind and she too began to fear the day when her own mother would pass on. She isn't ready for such ideas.
"I'm sorry for your loss.." She tried to smile for him though her eyes said otherwise. "She sounds like a wonderful mother." She finished her plate and gently placed her own fork upon it.

Eoin caught on to Loretta's face as he realized what he said might have upset her. It didn't hurt, hadn't for a long time, that his parents were dead. He knew they were resting in the beyond, he had come to terms with his family's 'passing' long ago. Constantly grieving for them did no one any good, nor did it honor their memories. He had decided he'd live many, many lives to make up for the ones they had lost. Shaking his head, he cleared his thoughts and attempted to console Loretta, "Oh, it's alright. It was all a long time ago, and she was. But we don't honor the dead by being constantly saddened by their absence, we honor them by living the lives they'd want for us."
Standing up, he glanced towards a corner of the pub and called out, "Ariani, we're done, time to lock the pub back up and leave. I'll collect the mess when I come back, but I'm tired, c'mon." Flustered that her spying from a corner had been discovered, known from the beginning even, Ari emerged from a booth and called out that she would be there in a second, she just needed to grab her things. Rolling his eyes, Eoin muttered "What things?" but he neither stopped her nor argued. Looking to Loretta, he thanked her for her company before adding with finality, "Thank you for eating with me, your company is very enjoyable. I'll walk you and Ariani home. How far out do you live?"
Taking the two outside regardless of any protest from Loretta, Eoin began their walk home by light-stepping towards the door to open it for the two ladies. Walking beside Loretta, Eoin mentally checked out for a bit as Ariani began talking. The loose lipped girl started telling a story about a time she went to the library and met a small girl there and how fascinating she found the girl and how they only talking for a minute but she wasn't one to keep her from her work so she let her go but followed her for a bit to see where she worked but she wasn't spying because wasn't that type of person but she was just curious and she saw her do something or another but it was super fascinating and something that a more normal girl her age would probably have never been caught dead doing, something like homework or whatever.
Honestly it all made Eoin's head hurt.
But Ariani didn't live far from the pub, and it took naught but a short walk to get her home and set off. She was still talking when Eoin 'assisted' Ariani in gently shutting her door. Turning to Loretta, Eoin walked in silence for a minute as they moved away from Ariani's small, tall, housing complex where she lived. Finally, he breathed in deep before speaking with a large sigh, "Loretta, that girl is a blessing to the pub and I like her, don't get me wrong. But sometimes I wish she would just, stop, talking." At that, he grinned a small, poorly attempted smile. The first he made all night after his first in greeting Loretta. It was not nearly as good as the one before, but he was trying. Smiling was difficult.
As they started walking, Eoin reached his arm around Loretta's hip to draw her close. He did not force her, however, only gently pulling.

"Oh, it's alright. It was all a long time ago, and she was. But we don't honor the dead by being constantly saddened by their absence, we honor them by living the lives they'd want for us."
"I-i see." Loretta had become flustered, and a tad ashamed for dishonoring his memories of the past. She did however gained insight to his feelings of the afterlife and found wise council in his statement.
Eoin suddenly stood and called out to what she thought was a random booth. "Ariani, we're done, time to lock the pub back up and leave. I'll collect the mess when I come back, but I'm tired, c'mon." And just like that Ari popped out from a booth and responded with a quip of how she needed to gether her things. Eoin then faced Lorreta and thanked her. "Thank you for eating with me, your company is very enjoyable. I'll walk you and Ariani home. How far out do you live?"
Before Loretta could protest, she was led outside with Ari and the three had begun their walk. Eoin walked beside her with Ari on her other side. Loretta could see that Eoin would not take part in no form or way with Ari's talking. Loretta listened with a smile as Ari told of a story about a time she went to the library and met a small girl. She had found the girl interesting and only spoke for a minute but did not stick around to share lovely banter with the girl as she respected her and her work. Instead she followed her silently, which she considered as not spying because that's not the type of person she was. She was merely just curious of what the girl did. And the shocker as Ari would put it, was that this girl, for some reason or other, did homework. A thing a girl her age was never caught doing.
Even as Eoin escorted Ari away into her home she still spoke endlessly until the door had shut. As the two moved away in silence from Ari's housing complex, Eoin breathed deeply before he spoke with a large sigh, "Loretta, that girl is a blessing to the pub and I like her, don't get me wrong. But sometimes I wish she would just, stop, talking." He grinned a small smile to her and Loretta returned her own grin as his comment had elicited a small giggle from her.
As the two walked, Eoin had reached his arm around Loretta's waist and gently pulled her to him. Her face reddened as she was pressed against Eoin's side and shyly placed a hand over his that held her fast at the hip. Her other hand awkwardly slid over Eoin's back, curling into a loose fist. She was sure Eoin could feel her racing heart. It pounded so loudly against her chest. And if he didn't, then he would most definitely feel her body's temperature going up against his skin. Never had she been held in such a manner! And it took all of her focus to not trip over her own two feet.
"E-eoin?" She blushed harder for murmuring his name. "A-are you sure about walking me all the way home?" She didn't realize it, but she had laced her fingers with his and squeezed his hand tightly as she asked.

Eoin gently closed his eyes for a second as he felt Loretta's clenched hand across his back. It was not the first time he had a woman's touch in that manner, but it was the first time it felt 'special.' There was something, filling, about being around Loretta. As if she were real and every other woman was some sort of hollow husk. He did not mean to say anything degrading about the others, they were all nice in their own regard. But he found Loretta special. That said, he was not prepared to disclose his intimacy history yet.
Opening his eyes, he continued walling and intertwined his hand at Loretta's hip with her own as he answered, "Of course I do. It's late at night and we'll be walking a long way, I'm not about to let you walk home by yourself anymore." Eoin realized how far away she lived and how late the pub closed. It was one thing let Ariani take the four minute walk to her home, it was another thing to ignore Loretta's long walk home in the dark. That, and because Eoin knew the pub attracted more 'unsavory' attention meant he'd be walking Loretta home every night, period.
As they walked and talked, a small group of three men started following them, murmuring. Each one wore a scarf or bandana of yellow, it was clear to Eoin which gang they belonged to without even having to look at their faces. Slashers. A gang that tended to take far more liberties than Alek's own men. It was good for Alek, or so the woman told Eoin, that there was another gang to attract the attention of the guards instead of her own men.
But Eoin disliked them all the same. Stopping, he patted Loretta on the shoulder and whispered, "Wait a second." Turning around, he called out to them in a tone dripping with scorn, "Can I help you-?" One of them, drunk of the wagon, swaggered up and made a movement to say something. Eoin never gave him a chance, separating from Loretta and flashing up a hoof to smash into his chest. A resounding 'CRACK' resulted as he did so and the man went flying back. While still alive due to his moans, he did not get up.
The other two, ignoring their friend, drew knives and began approaching. Eoin wasted no time and advanced on one, slipping to the side of his knife and smashing a fist into the back of the man's head, knocking him out cold. Turning to the last one, who charged him yelling, Eoin flashed up his arm to protect his face. The knife digging into his arm, Eoin ignored the pain and snapped a hoof into the final man's face. He didn't get back up.
Grabbing his bleeding arm, he whispered profanities as he attempted to apologize to Loretta for what happened, "So, sorry, should have told you before. Alek, woman who runs the man, runs a, ouch, 'group' that's not much liked by other 'groups.' It's been a while, but these things happen once every few months when they get bold."

"Of course I do. It's late at night and we'll be walking a long way, I'm not about to let you walk home by yourself anymore."
Her chest felt fluttery as he said so and for some reason or other, she was glad to hear it from him. She felt safe and secure in his arms and wished to stay there to continue feeling as such. As the two walked and talked somewhere near the upper side of the middle disrict, three men, each with a scarf or bandanna of a yellow hue, had been tailing them for some time. They murmured to each other things she could not have heard. But it seemed clear to Eoin who these men were. Or at least knew of their affiliations. Eoin had stopped and Loretta looked to him, confusion settled on her features. She was just about to ask if something was wrong when he leaned in. She was more or less a doe in headlights as he neared only to have whispered into her ear.
"Wait a second."
She nodded and he turned around facing the three men she did not see before, let alone notice to begin with. Eoin stood directly in front of her, blocking their view of her and forced their attention to him. Once they were focused on Eoin, he called out to them with what she could only guess was disdain in his voice.
"Can I help you-?"
One clearly drunken man neared and before he could have said anything, Eoin distanced himself from Loretta. He did not allow the man to do anything as Eoin hooved him away. She flinched as she imagined the pain when she heard a loud 'CRACK' that most likely left the man broken from the inside. He did not get up but he still showed signs of life through pained moans.
However, the other two had drawn out their knives and approached Eoin, each brandishing their blades. Eoin wasted no time and made advances on the two remaining. He somehow snaked his way around a knife and smashed his fist into the back of the man's head. He was knocked out cold and fell forward. Loretta watched in horror as the last one charged him yelling with his blade ready. Eoin brought up his arm to protect himself, mostly his face. The knife slashed his arm and Loretta gasped.
He's hurt!
Loretta continued to watch helplessly from the sidelines as Eoin ignored the laceration on his arm and slammed a hoof into the final man's face. He didn't stir after.
He held his bleeding arm and whispered profanities under his breath. Loretta rushed over to him and gently took his arm in her hands as he attempted to apologize to her for what happened, "So, sorry, should have told you before-"
"You're hurt.." her voice fell and did the first thing she could think of. She tore away her sleeve and dressed his wound no longer paying attention to what it was Eoin had said. It's the least she could do for him.

Eoin glanced at his arm, shrugging and remarking, "Eh, it's nothing." However, immediately, Loretta ripped her nice sleeve to bandage Eoin's arm. Freaking out, he started nagging immediately on how it wasn't necessary, he'd be fine, she didn't need to ruin her lovely blouse. But she ignored his protests, therefore he silenced himself and let her. Once she finished, he remarked as he examined the makeshift bandage, "... Thank you." Making a mental note to buy her a new blouse, he reached his good arm around her shoulders and started walking home.
It was not that he needed help walking, it was simply that he wanted to keep her close to soothe both his nerves and, hopefully, her's as well. He hated having to fight off the Slashers, it was one thing if someone made trouble in the pub, but to be accosted in the middle of the night by a bunch of faceless men, it was humiliating and saddening. He ended up walking much of the rest of the way in silence, only speaking occasionally to Loretta to keep the silence a little less awkward.
However, as they neared the rural district, Eoin started talking, "I apologize for all that, again. It's not something I enjoy, the Slashers really, really dislike Alek and anyone who works for her. Regardless, I had a lovely night with you, Loretta, and I look forward to the next." As he spoke, he pulled her in a bit tighter, enjoying the warmth of her body against his bare chest.

"... Thank you." Loretta smiled a bit before nodding. Eoin reached over and around her shoulders with his uninjured arm and the two continued on their walk to her home. She was thankful he held her so closely to him as she was still shaken up by the experience. She worried for Eoin and wondered if he was alright. He was quiet and mostly in thought but Loretta decided against interrupting him and only spoke when he asked her where to turn and how far along until they reached her home. Instead she gave his hand that she still held a weak squeeze, just enough to signal that she was still there if he needed her for anything. The silence was broken once they neared the border that ended the lower middle district and began the rural district. "I apologize for all that, again. It's not something I enjoy, the Slashers really, really dislike Alek and anyone who works for her. Regardless," Loretta's heart skipped a beat as he took her into an embrace of sorts where she was pressed into his bare chest. Not only did she redden as she was held in such ways, she also trembled in his hold as his breath tickled her skin. "I had a lovely night with you, Loretta, and I look forward to the next." Next time?Did he mean to say that? She wasn't sure, but it made her a little bit happier. "Thank you.. I will also be looking forward to our next time." She smiled. It wasn't long until Loretta led Eoin up the path to her home. It was a quaint cottage, small compared to the few acres it was built upon. As they reached her steps, she turned and faced Eoin, hands grasping his as a blush formed. "I want to thank you properly for this evening, as a token of my appreciation, however..." She gingerly placed her hands on his naked shoulders and reached with tippytoes up to him and softly planted a kiss on his cheek, though it was more or less closer to the corner of his lips. "This is all I could possibly give." She quickly turned away to hide her reddening face and reached for the door when it had opened for her instead. "Loretta?" It was her mother who had opened the door for her.

"This is all I could possibly give."
Eoin's face did not redden, he seemed to keep a small scowl on his face as Loretta placed a small kiss on his cheek. Shrugging, he responded, "It's alright, I suppose. Here-" At that, Eoin turned towards the door in order to open it for her. While he tried to keep up a more stoic expression, inside he was unable to even understand what had just happened, he didn't even see Loretta also reaching for the door. If Loretta would look at Eoin, she'd see a little movement behind him. On the top his trousers, a little tuft of a tail blurred itself in a wagging motion. His face was stoic, but inside, his heart soared. He wanted to grin like an idiot, grab up Loretta and kiss her deeply. However, his own pride and his respect of her kept him back.
It took him a few seconds, after a woman Eoin assumed was Loretta's mother, opened the door, for Eoin to come to his senses. When he did, his eyes widened intensely. Face contorted into confusion, he looking to Loretta, then back to her mother, back to Loretta, then to the mother. Crooking his head, he asked, "Eleanor? Is that you?" Stepping forward, he sought to get into the light in order to get a better look at her face. He did not, however, step in front of Loretta, careful to keep out of her way and let her get inside if she wished.
The Faun was stunned, beyond belief in fact. Images flooded back to his mind upon seeing the woman, of a time nearly three decades before. He remembered the ivory palace, a beautiful woman for whom a courting spread from a whim to a love. A wild time of his youth. A time of drinking and moments shared in the darkness, and a time of angry fathers and a bloody exile. He thought for sure that she had been married off to someone from some far off land, surely she had been. This woman, she could not be Eleanor Porthelimier.

Loretta was quickly ushered inside by her father who glanced over to Eoin as he came into the light. His brow furrowed as he nearly voiced disapproving thoughts. Instead he simply stood beside his wife, a scowl on his sharp face. He stood squared with a protective arm at Eleanor's waist and easily stood taller than Eoin by half a foot.
"Eleanor? Is that you?"
Eleanor had not moved since she opened the door. She had been staring in shock as she met with the ghost of her past. How long had it been? 30 years? But it couldn't possibly be! He had died that night, she was sure of it! And as if to confirm what happened, she spotted the old faded scar on his bare chest. Exactly where they stabbed him. She gasped as reality struck. Tears gathered at the corner of her wrinkled eyes. It was him. He lives still!
"...is it true? Is it really you Eoin? All these years and you don't look a day older."
Harold's brow raised high with a dumbfounded look. Eleanor knew this man? How could she have? He didn't wish to upset his wife more than she already became and leaned over to whisper into Eleanor's ear. She was much shorter than he, a whole foot smaller.
"Perhaps another day, dear. It's late enough and the children will stir if we don't return to bed soon."
Eleanor quickly wiped the tears away and nodded to her husband. She turned away with a hand on Harold's back to egg him inside with her. She faced Eoin one last time with a saddened smile.
"It was good to see you again.." and the door swayed closed as the entered back into their home.
It wasn't long after the two had gone inside, Loretta made her way outside with a green roll clasped and tucked away in her arms. She called out to Eoin with a shy smile.
"Eoin wait! I-" She held out the rolled tunic to him as she remembered he was returning to the Horse Head. "I forgot to bring it with me this morning, so I thought uhm.. that you'd take it with you on your way back errm.. or perhaps it best I return it myself in the morrow?" She gripped the fabric nervously in her hands as she berated herself mentally for assuming that Eoin would take the tunic off her hands. "Ehhh.. You don't have to if you don't want to.."
