Profile
Name: Selesti
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Vultibri
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 120 lbs
Rank: Citizen
Basic Appearance: The vultibri are shaped much like humans, and like the rest of her species, Selesti is thin, with most of her body covered in small scales, dark green in her case. Portions of her body, such as her face, are mottled with portions of uncovered skin that are much more pale, appearing almost grey. Her pupils are slitted, with the rest of her eyes being a bright amber. There is no hair anywhere on her body. Her cheeks are deeply sunken and her jawline is sharp, as are her teeth. Secondary sexual characteristics are present, but far less pronounced. Beyond all that, she is visually identical to a human, and may even be able to pass as one in the dark.
Combat Credentials
Combat Style: Highly aggressive with very little defense. Uses various magic (see below) to both keep aggressors at a distance and to overwhelm them so that they take the highest damage possible without having a chance to counter attack. When they get close, she will use the blade on her staff to tear them apart.
Abilities
Poison making: Exactly what it sounds like. Celesti is skilled in creating deadly poisons that can kill quietly or painfully from common ingredients, and even their antidotes, but more helpful concoctions are not her forté.
It should be noted that upon arriving in Etirath, Selesti is only an apprentice. She knows only the simplest versions of the following abilities. Only in the mechanics of harnessing blood is she truly proficient.
Blood Magic: There is power in blood, and through it, Celesti can increase the power of her spells exponentially. This, of course, requires a hefty amount of it to do so, whether it is outside of a body or belongs to her, a willing donor, or a corpse. It should go without saying that the more there is, the more potent the effect. Also, blood belonging to a currently living person, even if already seperated from them, is much more useful than that of the dead. (Italics indicate a spell only usable through blood)
Blood Rage: Celesti sheathes herself in blood, greatly increasing magical and physical prowess for a short time. Incredibly exhausting, likely to be used as a last resort.
Elemental Magic: One of the simplest forms of magic, the ability to generate and control the basic elements. Can also manipulate existing sources to a more limited extent. Her staff is capable of firing small blasts without much energy expenditure. She favors fire and frost.
Energy projection: Another relatively simple ability, she can expel kinetic energy, great for pushing enemies away and creating large shockwaves.
The Grimoire: Not exactly an ability, but Celesti's grimoire contains rituals that allow one to cast much more powerful-and even permanent-spells. It contains all of those that she knows and many more. She is constantly studying it.
Haemokinesis: The telekinetic manipulation of blood Encompasses a wide variety of uses, from creating solid constructs to attacking with pressurized streams, most of which is unknown to her.
Invisibility: Allows Selesti to become undetectable to all of the senses except touch. However, this works by altering perception, meaning that those who are immune to illusion magic will not be affected.
Mock Necromancy: Through the control of blood, Selesti can raise corpses in a way that resembles necromancy. However, doing so is highly difficult and results in imprecise, jerky movements.
Summoning: Bringing forth and binding otherwordly creatures to oneself. Requires a blood sacrifice for even the most fragile of summons. The stronger and more intelligient the creature summoned is, the riskier it is. Even with the appropriate sacrifice, they are harder to control, especially for an apprentice like Celesti, and can cause mass chaos.
Weapon(s): A staff almost as tall as she is, made of gnarled black wood, on one end a sharp dark purple crystal, with the wood in the shape of five claws going inward toward its center. On the other end is a steel blade for when an opponent comes too close for comfort. The wood is curled around its base.
Also, a small dagger, very rarely used as a weapon.
Gear: A hooded grey robe with hints of crimson that reaches down to just below her knees and split down the middle from below the waist downward for mobility, paired with beige linen trounsers. The hood is usually kept down. She also wears leather boots and bracers. Around her waist is a belt where she carries any gear she needs. On it is a large, thick carrier for her grimoire, an old, heavy book bound in black leather that contains all of her spells.
Background
Far, far to the east, near the edge of the known world, is the city of Valcum, protected on all sides by a massive, cursed bog. Any who venture into it disappear, whether it be one man or 100. Thus, the only details known to the outside world are those that its people, the vultibri, have deigned to give, and they have not been willing to share much. What is known is that the city is large, and its people immensely powerful. The land in which they reside is dangerous: outsiders would not survive, even if they found a way to cross the swamp.
Selesti grew as all Vultibri do, seperated from her parents and grouped with her peers. They are all put through intensive training, taught to be strong and fearless. The basics of combat, magic, and subterfuge are taught on the same basis as survival skills. At the age of maturity, they are cast into the wild with a single item of their choosing and nothing else, not even clothing, with the goal being to bring down a sufficiently dangerous creature, whether they do it alone or as a group, in order to prove their worth. The challenge has no rules to speak of. Less than a third return.
From early on, Selesti had an affinity for magic. She would spend hours studying and practicing spells on her own, especially the dangerous ones. Whenever it was her time to be sent outside of the city, it helped her immensely. She had decided to go it alone. Then, after 2 days, she heard a terrifying screech and the sounds of battle. She came upon the twisted visage of a humanoid creature atop 4 long, thin appendages. Making the attempt to kill it was a man, with 2 others lying dead nearby. She knew him. He was weak. He had not a chance of surviving, but she did. When he called for her help, she gave it by animating his comrades to use as distraction, then she slit his throat. With the power of his blood, she brought the beast down and tore out its black heart.
When she returned home, she was praised for her ruthlessness and resourcefulness and assigned as an apprentice to the city's most powerful mage. This did not last very long, though. He was a bit of a recluse, and loathed the company of others. His method of training (which, admittedly, worked for the survivors) was to send his pupils elsewhere. Selesti was no different. She was sent to the West, to Etirath, to learn its culture and its secrets. She was also in part sent to estimate its strength and possibly open up diplomatic relations, or, if appropriate, to weaken them for a coming war.
