Profile:
Name: Willem DeCarlisle
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 175 lbs
Rank: Guard Captain (approved by Lady Lev)
Basic Appearance:
Hair: Ashy brown stalks that hang just over his ears. Always brushed and maintained, thanks to his sister Heidi.
Facial Hair: It refuses to grow out evenly, so he keeps a bare face to avoid looking "like a hobo" as his sister Vivienne so eloquently puts it.
Eyes: A shiny chocolate brown
Build: Willem is a tall, thick man. Imagine a lumberjack with a baby face, minus the unruly beard. He does have a little weight robbing him of the abs favored by the ladies, but he has enough women in his life as it is... (a little extra weight on a large frame looks manly anyway, according to his sister Dalia)
Special Features: Nothing to speak of, unless the split in the top of his right ear counts? Thanks to a sensless fight caused by his youngest sister, Corianne, he took a blow from a dagger that was originally aimed for his face. The wound healed, but his ear never did grow back together again...
Combat Credentials:
Combat Style: Protective, Denfensive
Abilities: Willem is a lover, not a fighter - unless it comes to one of his 7 sisters, and even then he's used violence as a final resort. The man is built for it, but he's simple-natured and overwhelmingly peaceful.
Bio/Backstory:
That's right, you read correctly. Seven younger sisters, all under Willem's care..
Corianne (8)
Heidi (11)
Elise (12)
Katherine (16)
Dalia (18)
Arista (18)
Vivienne (21)
Are Willem's parents part rabbit? No, but the townships they traveled through certainly didn't spare his parents from their pious and judgemental name-calling. 'Rabbit' was a most gracious term compared to some..
Willem's father said it was a curse, having so many girls. His great grandfather before him had prayed for a boy to champion the art of sword and shield; he recited his psalms and oaths every night at the local temple. When he was gifted with a girl, he was devestated. The daughter was disowned, cast out. She turned out to be the champion of sword and shield in the end, but when her father came back to praise her she denied him. She cursed him for his betrayal... Willem felt the story was foolish, but his sisters seemed to revel in it. Their empowerment made him laugh.
For twenty-one years the DeCarlisle clan multiplied. His father was the bread winner, working as a hired sword for nobles and any other paying customer. Consequently, Willem was left at home in a constantly stirring pool of estrogen. This would account for most of his adulthood mannerisms: heightened sensitivity, gentle demeanor, peaceful nature, and excellent listening skills. As you may have guessed, Willem also became a pseudo father figure to his siblings. It was only natural, and he didn't seem to mind taking on the role.
Playing parent for so long made the shock of their real father's death a little more manageable.. Henry DeCarlisle was slaughtered in an ambush that was set up by his own client - a venegeful wife whose husband was murdered during the course of a previous job. Henry slayed the man in self defense, and paid for that action with his life. To make matters worse, Willem's mother was frail and pregnant with her last child when the news came.
Elenor DeCarlisle was an emotionally dependant woman. She hadn't known a life without Henry since she was a young girl, living with her own parents. His death struck her heart like lightning in a dry field, and soon the resulting fires would spread and consume her. When the babe was finally born, Willem's mother fell into a sickness of the mind. Dark thoughts loomed over her, and sometimes he caught her staring at the newborn with a look of malice that frightened him. He often had to remind her, or even force her to feed the child... The illness climaxed on a cold night in early Spring.
Willem found his mother with a blanket, smothering the baby. He stopped her before anything could be done, but she fought back. Protecting Corianne, (a name he chose, himself) Willem rebuffed his mother's advance. As quickly as it started, the conflict ended. Elenor stumbled backward, fell, and hit her temple against the corner of a stone table... Her suffering was over.
Everything went downhill from there, and for a long time the DeCarlisle clan seemed nothing more than a group of disorganized chaos. Willem, then twenty-two, had to conquer the task of parenting six pubescent girls and an infant. Needless to say, life got really hard really quickly.
The local orphanage adopted a lot of the responsibilities that Willem could not handle on his own. They even offered to find willing parents for Corianne. Willem adamently refused. His sisters paid for the hospitality by cleaning and helping with chores, while he handled the difference with money earned from numerous trivial jobs - mostly manual labor.
After six years, half of the DeCarlisle clan was too old to live in the orphanage any longer. Willem couldn't blame them; children in worse situations needed the care that his family had monopolized (some would say) during their stay. With the staff's guidance he had become the head of the DeCarlisle clan proper, and he could lead his family to a better life elsewhere.
A month after arriving in the Kingdom of Etirath, Willem and his sisters finally started to settle in. He took the first job he could find; spectating and regulating the traffic in and out of the city. He was an apprentice watch guard at best, but he earned his keep - unless you ask Laniz. She'd skin him if she got the chance. After a year of diligent service (even recognized by Lady Theolandra) Willem had earned the title of Guard Captian. His sisters had also settled in nicely. They made numerous friends in the Rural District and some adopted jobs around the city.. Life had turned out okay.
