Going with the reintroduction route as opposed to the going with the time skip. Effects would put him as a middle aged man without really having any sort of noticeable impact that I ever roleplayed out to speak of. I could write out a short history of what he had done in 12 years but in the end he would end up not being a character I wanted to play.
Profile
Name: Marco Quinn
Age: 26
Gender: male
Rank: Citizen
Basic Appearance
Hair: Dark brown shoulder length, often tied into a pony tail
Facial Hair: Typically shaven, though not above walking around with a bit of stubble
Eyes: Central heterochromia in both eyes, a golden color towards the center with light blue radiating out
Build: A rather wiry yet somewhat muscular build. About the build one might see in a basketball player.
Height: 6 ft 2 in
Weight: 160 lbs
Special Features: A slightly chiseled, kind of handsome face. Three inch long scar along his cheek under his left eye, indicating an accident with early versions of his weapons (see below). Several other scars around his body caused by other grazes and near misses in his experimentation.
Combat Credentials
Combat Style: Blue/Gun mage
Abilities: Has an above average understanding of magic. He is also a skilled engineer and gunsmith. All of which the above come into play with the type of weaponry he utilizes.
Gear: He typically wears a white button up shirt with a light leather blue dyed vest over the top of that, which is covered then by a knee length leather coat, also dyed a dark shade of blue. The coat closes in the front via a set of buckles, and has multiple pockets inside and out to hold ammunition for his weapons. For bottoms he usually goes for a set of slim fitting dark colored pants and leather boots.
Marco is also hard of sight, and thus needs glasses. When just walking around, he wears a pair of simple thin wire frames. When in combat or preparing to go to combat, he switches over to a pair of goggles which contain the same kind of lens that his casual glasses do.
Full Description/ Info:
Weapons: Two custom made firearms, one formed in the style of a pistol and the other in the form of a rifle/musket. (more information below)
Weapon Description/Info:
Dubbed the MQ 100, this is a hand held pistol. The body of it could be compared to the real world Cold Model 1848 Dragoon Revolver. It has five chambers, each of which can hold the specialty ammunition Marcos makes (see below). Rather than firing physical rounds, when the hammer strikes the ammunition, it fires off a blast depending on the type of magic the ammunition had most recently absorbed. Along the barrel there is what appears to be two halves of a cone on either side, which serves a function in one of the four possible settings for the weapon, which will be explained.
Saftey: Self explanatory. The flick of a lever locks the trigger in place.
Firing Mode: This is essentially just the safety being turned off, again not a whole lot of explanation necessary.
Gathering Mode: This is where things get less typical. The previously mentioned cone is shifted up on the barrel, and locked into place inside the barrel. While setting the gun to this mode the safety is also typically turned on. The cone, also made of enchanted mithril will draw upon the most powerful source of incoming magic, and draw it in and down the barrel, to an empty unaligned round of crystal ammunition. Given the size of the weapon it can only absorb smaller, more basic magical attacks.
Gathering Saftey Mode: Similar to Firing Safety mode. In an emergency if the magic being absorbed is too much to handle, and prevent the round (as well as all others in their own chambers) from exploding in ones face.
The MQ 105- This is a rifle bearing real world resemblance to the Winchester Model 1873, but with a revolcing system built in, much like the Colt Model 1885 Revolving Carbine rifle one notable difference being the absorbing cone and as a whole what appears to be a thicker body down the barrel. It has all the same activated modes as its pistol counterpart, with some notable differences. It can only carry 3 crystal rounds, but they themselves are built much larger, and thus are able to hold more energy within them.
Where as the MQ 100 can only absorb and fire short bursts, the MQ 105 can absorb more powerful, and more unique types of magic. It has an additional mode that is activated by the flick of a lever allows for short bursts of “continuous fire.” Examples of this result might allow for a flamethrower type effect if using a fire type round, continuous powerful burst of wind for an air type round, etc… The cone is required to be out while this mode is active, or else the user risks injury, as the weapon is quite literally just spewing out magic without much control while the trigger is down.
Additional information- Both the MQ 100 and MQ 105 are obviously not typical firearms. One thing that should be made absolutely clear is that they are ages away from being considered fully automatic weapons, and a few steps below semi auto, as the revolving function is only there to switch which type of ammunition is being used, and does not allow for rapid fire. The hammer must be cocked back after each shot to fire the next, in order for the crystal to be struck.
The type of energy absorbed does not necessarily need to be referred to as magic, but it must take the form of some physical and quantifiable energy attack. For example, either of these guns could theoretically absorb force lighting coming from a sith lord for a period of time, but can not without great difficulty absorb something more abstract like the force in general (telekinesis essentially)
Furthermore the MQ 105’s continuous fire mode is sketchy at best. As previously mentioned the mithril cone is recommended to be in the active position (depending on type of magic used) for the safety of the user. Holding down the trigger piercing into the crystal is also tiring, and drains absorbed magic rather quickly.
Ammo Description- The ammunition Marco uses is similar to that of quartz crystal. Through ritual magic outside of combat, the crystal is prepared. In addition to a light blue tint, the ritual he conducts charges it with neutral magical energies. When exposed to magic of any other sort it will absorb it to a point. The casing of it is enchanted mithril, which helps to hold in the magic, and covers a majority of the round, much like a typical modern bullet casing. There is a large opening in the front, and a smaller pin sized hole in the back, which a hammer in the firing mechanism strikes to set off.
The way this ammunition is made it is very foolish to try and absorb too much, for that can cause the crystal to explode. This can also happen if one tries to absorb more than one type of magic into the same crystal, though occasionally is possible, which allows for some interesting effects. Regardless of whether or not they had absorbed any energy, these rounds are typically not safe to touch directly. Holding only a neutrally charged round without the casing will slowly but surely exhaust and physically drain oneself over a long period of time. When charged, they will react in kind to the type of magic they absorbed (ex. Fire magic will burn to the touch, electric will shock etc…)
Bio/Backstory
Marco is the son of a rich merchant and in his childhood was forced to have a very prim and proper upbringing. His mother and father where very business minded, and often paid him little mind emotionally. It was always about the next big deal to be made or trade route to be opened. Marco interpreted this attitude as his parents not really caring about him, which he may have been justified in thinking so, which in turn lead to a rebellious streak.
That was not to say he was without morals or ethics. His rebellious attitude culminated in him sneaking off to visit an uncle of his, who was a bit of a black sheep of the family, choosing a life as a gunsmith. While sneaking off to his uncle’s shop Marco learned the tricks of the trade, and to this day is a very capable craftsman.
This sort of life was not fitting to the heir of the empire his parents were trying to build, or so they said. Recognizing that he had a desire to learn in him, they through their money around a bit and once he was of age enrolled him in an expensive college for the magical arts. This action served a dual purpose as having a mage in the family would grant an in house expert on trade related to magic and its supplies.
This type of environment did not suite Marco well. His grades came back rather mediocre (equivalent of a C student) and he often talked back and argued with his professors and instructors. His grades took and even further plunge when he had received news of his uncles passing, the only family he had that he really cared for.
In his uncles honor, and in a last ditch effort to prove that he had made progress at the college, he made early versions of his current trademark weapons, dubbed the mage buster and the MQ magic re-purposing unit, respectively. He was mocked and shamed when presenting his initial creations, for not only were they flawed at the time, but looked upon as frivolous attempts made by a lackluster student, and a waste of his parents money putting him through school.
This is what put Marco over the edge. He grew tired of serving the wallets of his parents, as well as trying to please his professors. As he was of age to where he could legally make his own decisions, he dropped out of the university and ran away from home, choosing the life of a wanderer and a vagabond, along the road broadening his knowledge in ways that a university environment could not. He made a living however he could, putting whatever skill he had to use. Once further perfecting his weapons to their current versions, he even began taking up mercenary work, gaining on the field experience.
Marco has so far lived a lonely life on the road, and has always sought out a way to “settle down” in a sense. He has no desire to re-build his relationship with his direct family, and would rather find a place far away from the fact. Etirath in itself is an opportunity for him, as he could find work as a soldier, gunsmith/blacksmith, etc…
