Mifar ra Thogan.
By Valiya/Yedracht Romotch Matak
The Kingdom of Giants.
Long ago, in the formation of the world, legend tells of a race of men blessed by Sympati. They lived in a beautiful, lush land in the north. Out of stone they constructed mighty fortresses straight from the mountains that still stand today. So great was theor wealth that it was said that the whole world envied them.
But there stood one group who actively opposed the northerns, a race of men who would defy the gods. Instead of the Divines, they worshipped the power within the world, for it had existed long before Den's light was cast upon it. From their ancient worship, they were each granted the strength of ten men and skin of frozen stone. Calling themselves Thogan, Giants, they waged war against man and struck him down in the North, forcing him to flee. For hundreds of years, the Giants ruled the North, turning it from lush forests and verdant foliage to a harsh land of ice and permafrost. They named their land Mifar ra Thogan, land of giants.
Man was weak, and could not take back his home. But the man of old was also brave, and though he was fragile, his bravery was far greater than his fear and weakness. Despite their losses at the hands of the Thogan, time brought numbers, and what they lacked in quality they held in quantity. Many Divines offered them strength to take back their land, however, they refused. The Divines had not protected their ancestors, so they would have no part in the retaking of their home. Instead, they sought the wisdom of a voice from the mountains. It told them of a strength far beyond that of the Thogan and the old gods. Gathering their camps, their children, and their weapons, they sought out this power.
Far above the sky, an ancient dragon beyond the chains of time and force flew for all eternity. Utilizing their intelligence and their immense bravery, man utilized the innate powers of the world to force the dragon down. The entire race of northern men fought this dragon, and nearly all were killed. Four men and women remained at the battle's end, bleeding and burnt, standing in the frozen pools of their friend's, family's, and children's blood, they continued to fight. Impressed by their bravery, the dragon bestowed upon them a gift before leaving them to return to the sky.
Those who descended the mountain were not the same as those who ascended. More than just their hearts and minds were changed, their very souls had been altered by the dragon. Magic flowed through their veins like water over a great fall, every word they spoke was foreign and manifested in flames hot enough to melt steel, and their strength was greater than even the Thogan. In their new tongue, they bestowed upon each other new names, for they had been reborn.
Moracht, the Bear of the North, Eiracht, the Lion of the North, Veracht, the Wolf of the North, and their leader, Yedracht, the Dragon of the North, for through his veins flowed the blood of the Dragon whom he had cut. From their blood, all northern would be born. However, first, they traveled back to their ancestral homes in the north.
The Thogan had never seen such power, their skin melted from the flames and their strength paled in comparison to the four warriors. Alone, they killed thousands of Thogan, til their very ancestral name had been all but lost. The few stragglers hid in the highedt mountains, farther north than even the Warriors could travel. There, they forgot themselves and became like beasts without thought or reason. The Thogan were no more.
As they were reborn, so was their land. The warrior would call it Geddon Tha, Sodden Down, the lowland of water.
