Selesti walked-well, more like creeped-along the trail that led to the kingdom of Etirath. Since entering human lands, she had been overwhelmed by the relative safety. As a result, she was now intensely paranoid. Every little noise made her wary, made her believe that some horrible beast was lying in wait for her. It would be good to finally arrive in Etirath proper. Suddenly, she stopped, her suspicions half-confirmed.
"Never seen one o' you before." A small woman muttered as she stepped out of the treeline ahead of Selesti (who now had her hand on her staff) with two blades drawn. "I hope we find some'in good when we loot your corpse." A very slight eye movement tipped Selesti off to a second attacker. In a flash, she pulled the staff off of her back, gripped it near the blade with her second hand, spun around and slashed at the man coming at her from behind. His reflexes were sharp, and he avoided the blow, but fell on his side in doing so. She pressed the blade of her staff against his throat. Then, from each side came two others armed with bows.
"Scavengers. An arrow flies, and you all die," Selesti hissed. She squeezed the staff, preparing for the inevitable. The bandit woman, whom seemed to be the leader, simply laughed. The others readied their bows, likely sealing Selesti's fate barring outside intervention.

Ilbraum stepped out from behind a tree, flame sparking from underneath his fingernails, then billowing up his arms. They enveloped his chest and head, and his eyes turned murderous as he depressed the button on his spear, causing the rest of the weapon to slide out, transforming from an approximately three foot pole to a six foot long spear with a ten inch pointed blade. He smiled at Selesti and bowed, giving her a thick cajun accent as he said, "Care for some help, ma chere?"
As he did this the bandits broke from their shock and he turned on them, swinging his right arm up and chopping the spear down onto the mans neck, severing his head causing blood to spray from his wound. Ilbraum thrust his hand to the ground and pillars of flame shot up and enveloped one of the men aiming the bow at Selesti. The other had taken this time to nock an arrow and carefully aim for Ilbraum while he was turned around. He let loose of the arrow as Ilbraum was pulling his hand from the earth and standing up. Without some other sort of intervention it would find its mark easily.

Selesti reacted quickly when the interloper emerged, offering help in the common human tongue. He would serve as a fine distraction. She thrust the blade of her staff into the prone bandit's throat near the jaw, then cut down to the collarbone, spraying her own robe and scaly face with blood. His eyes widened and his hands went to his throat in a panic as he began to drown in his own blood. He would likely live for a few minutes longer, which Selesti would take advantage of.
She moved her staff aside and raised her other hand slowly, then began muttering in her own language. Blood from the open wound followed continuously, wrapping around her hand and wrist, hovering about an inch away. Screams erupted from one of the archers as he burned to death, prompting her to gaze toward Ilbraum. Behind him was the second bowman, preparing to fire.
As the shot was loosed, time slowed to a halt. A well placed spell would stop the arrow from striking the human interloper, but possibly lose her the opportunity to kill the enemy. The pyromancer proved useful as of yet, albeit made a foolish mistake by turning his back to a hostile. It was not her responsibility to save him, anyway, and the bandit leader was already coming at her with weapons drawn.
Selesti reached out her hand, and the blood propelled toward Ilbraum in the form of four tendrils. They weaved around him without making contact, each taking a different route. Once on the appropriate side, they expanded and crystallized, forming a single thin wall. The arrow smashed into the wall harmlessly, which once again became liquid and returned to Selesti. Whether or not she cared to save him, he may have been from Etirath, and gaining a magical ally could prove useful. She hoped he would be competent enough to dispatch his attacker himself, as she had another to attend to.
The aforementioned last of the group rushed at Selesti, swinging with both blades. It was blocked by Selesti's staff held with both hands. She pushed the blades upward and kicked the bandit in the stomach, then spun around and slammed the staff into the side of her head, hard enough to knock her unconscious.
"Pathetic," she muttered, somewhat disappointed with the fight that they had put up.

Ilbraum looked surprised as the tendrils of blood slid around him, yet simply snapped his fingers as he realized the man on the other side of the wall was nocking another arrow. The man screamed in agony as he was ignited, flesh burning from bone and muscles hardening from the heat. The smell of burning flesh and blood filling the air.
Ilbraum turned to the woman who had come to his aid. "I appreciate the assistance, and you are?" he asked with utmost politeness. His eyes were flashing a bright orange and his skin was still crawling with the red orange flames he had caused to appear. Flames littered the ground, eating up the few dry leaves left on the ground.

"Selesti," she stated simply, not bothering to even gaze toward him. She examined the two bandits she disabled, and seeing that they were still alive, thrust the blade of her staff into their hearts, killing them instantly. When she was done, she turned to face Ilbraum, holding her staff in one hand so the shaft was behind her arm and the blade above and behind the same shoulder, ready to attack. For the first time, she got a good look at Ilbraum, from a few yards away. Fire still raged about him, prompting Selesti to be cautious.
"With what motive did you assist against these highwaymen? What reward do you expect? Or perhaps you are simply one of their ilk, come to loot their corpses and take their prey as your own. If so, you will not get far." Her hand and staff began to visibly radiate frost to emphasize her point. However, not even she was sure whether it was a bluff, with the extent of the pyromancers abilities unknown. What she did know is that she was near several corpses, and thus a fresh supply of blood; she would certainly put up a fight.

"If I were truly part of their brood do you not think I would have turned on you first, then killed them whilst they were looting you? I'm nothing if not a man of honor. Although I believe you may need to lower your guard a bit more when speaking to new people, as you are never sure of their capabilities. Either way I am friend, as long as you will have me. May I ask what it is you wish to accomplish? What motive caused you to wander into these woods in the middle of the night."
Ilbraum felt as though he talked for ages, and slowly but surely allowed his fire to dim, and then finally snuff out. He held his hand out to the woman. "Would you like me to travel with you? I'm certain there is more than just that lurking around."

(My apologies, been annoyingly busy as of late)
Rather than questioning Ilbraum's logic, Selesti stared at him with her auburn eyes, watched him outstretch his hand, and then turned away wordlessly to search the corpses, placing the staff onto her back and dissipating the prepared spell. She took all of the currency off the cadavers, as well as any small valuables.
"I endeavor to...settle in the nearby kingdom. I believe we are less than an hour's walk away, if you truly wish to follow. Perhaps you would like a meal before we continue?" It was customary to give some sort of reward for such assistance, after all, and preparing a meal was relatively easy. She crouched over the bloody corpse of the leader and examined it. "This one will do. We only need for the two of us, after all, and she does have a fair amount of muscle." She muttered, more to herself than to Ilbraum, before she threw the corpse over her shoulder.
"If you would like to set a fire somewhere off the road, I could set on preparing some stew." She looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to comply with the casual act of cannibalism.
