Profile
Name: Deidra De'Monique
Nickname: Dee Dee
Age: 37 (though she appears much younger)
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 118 lbs
Rank: Citizen
Basic Appearance: Dee has a petite build. She appears to be human, however her eyes would suggest something more. Pupiless with a faint golden hue, they are certainly her most notable feature. Dee's skin is also distinctive in her appearance, fair and flawless like a porcelain doll. Her hair is a deep shade of red, though she wears wigs of various styles and colors quite often. Her clothing preference is usually comfortable, unrestrictive attire in contrasting arrays of color.
Combat Credentials
Combat Style:
Though quite agile, Dee has never been formally trained in any form of combat and so she avoids direct confrontation if at all possible. Not a warrior or fighter of note, still she is far from defenseless. Dee is a Puppet Master and Doll Maker of unnatural talent, able to use her creations with such skill, to the point that her dolls and puppets seem to possess a life and will of their own. It is a talent that she typically would not openly reveal to anyone without reason. Most of those who have ever witnessed her ability were found dead, or wished they were. Still, in the rare event her dolls are not at hand or incapacitated, she still manages to keep a few tricks and traps up her sleeves.
Abilities: Note, that although Deidra is quite proficient in her abilities, she does not fully understand them nor does she know of what school if any they would fall under. Her potential may exceed her current limitations if she were guided by someone who were to recognize what she possesses. It is only assumed that these abilities are inherited traits from some forgotten ancestor in her family bloodline that chose to manifest in her.
Life Strings: Deidra has the innate ability to control dolls and similar objects by means of threads that essentially bind her to the puppet. The threads are tied directly to her and are invisible to most. Her own life energy is transferred through the threads, like an extension of her own conscious and subconscious mind, therefore the puppets respond to her commands as if she were controlling her own body but can also act on their own through a given command so long as the connection remains. The most effective range is 100 yards for physical control, 500 yards for perceptual such as sight or hearing. The exceptions to these rules are Pride and Joy. Their bodies have mechanical enhancements that allow them to move while expending less energy so long as their hearts are wound. Deidra's own perception of reality has become skewed by her somewhat questionable mental state, as such Pride and Joy react off of her subconscious control since she views the pair as living beings, at least that is the theory. Hence, if she tells them to fight they will do so, however they seem almost human in desire for self preservation so they will not throw themselves into a situation that would likely lead to their destruction. Another note for the life strings ability is that there must be a bond made between master and puppet. A simple touch is sufficient to create the bond with the object, therefore Deidra cannot simply take control of any object she has not physically touched.
Life Steal: This is a relatively new ability that Deidra has discovered on her own, finding out that the threads not only are able to transfer her energy through to puppets but in turn allows them to steal energy from others they touch and return it to her. Mostly she can only draw small harmless amounts, which could explain her youthful appearance, but if she can improve upon the ability then it may be possible to rob enough energy to incapacitate or even kill.
Heart Strings: This is another ability that Deidra has yet to master. Deidra has found that through use of her own lifes blood, she can use her threads to manipulate a living being. A prick of a finger is sufficient, so long as her blood is spilled in one way or another. The result are faintly visible threads that if bound to a living being can allow her to take control of their physical body. There is still much more to be learned of this special talent, and in her trials she also found that it carries great risk. The use of heart strings is taxing upon her own body, robbing her of blood and life which leaves her weak a vulnerable. Due to the strain, it is critical that she work quickly to accomplish whatever end she would desire from its use. Another interesting trait of this ability is that she need not make a bond by touching the target directly, but rather they only need to come in contact with one of the delicate crimson threads in order to be ensnared.
Marionettes Dance: This ability allows Deidra to suspend herself in the air like a puppet. It is quite useful in putting her out of reach of would be attackers without restricting or interfering with her other abilities.
Tangled Web: This ability requires the use of fine threadlike wires that she can disperse by means of control through life strings, much like the puppets. The wires are spread within close proximity, essentially creating a web of tight wires that can easily cut flesh or weak armor and ensnare those who would seek to pursue her. This is primarily a defensive maneuver to buy time and can only be used by briefly suspending control of whatever puppets she may be controlling at the time.
Weapon(s):
Any of the dolls, puppets and toys created by her own hands can essentially become a weapon. Dangerous and sometimes deadly secrets lie embedded beneath innocence and beauty, revealed only by the summons of their creator. The greatest of these are Dee's two most beloved creations, a pair of automaton puppets of much greater size and strength, which she aptly named Pride and Joy to reflect the satisfaction and self gratification in her accomplishment. Unlike others, Pride and Joy are a complex assembly of clockwork gears and springs. Seven foot steel skeletons shrouded by reinforced layers and two lovingly crafted faces, their hearts crafted of fine brass which require occasional winding in order to animate their powerful bodies. Normally Pride and Joy serve as Dee's assistants, performing mundane daily tasks and heavy lifting. Their true appearance is kept hidden beneath colorful hooded cloaks and leather gloved hands.
Joy
Gear:
Often colorful tunics, blouses and short skirts, so long as its comfortable and allows for unrestricted movement. Deidra typically would not wear armor unless a predetermined situation called for it, though she never intends to be directly involved in conflicts. She does keep a leather pack and some pouches around when traveling alone on foot, keeping a few of her dolls and various toys and creations on hand as well as other essential and common items. Usually Pride or Joy accompany her or are in a relatively close proximity. Since the appearance of two large living dolls would tend to draw unwanted attention, Joy wears a patchwork cloak in a mosaic of shapes and colors, Pride wears a red and black striped cloak.
Background
Little is known of Deidra's past or origins. The one thing that stands out the most is her passion for dolls and toys, a love that she inherited from her father who ran a modest shop in the early days of her childhood. It was then when she began to hone her own craft, developing the skills which allow her to create her masterpieces. From the day she was born, Deidra always seemed different from other children, having a rather carefree and rebellious spirit that often landed her into trouble on more than one occasion. It was not until her 7th birthday that Deidra truly began to realize just how different she was from the others in her hometown. That was the day the voices began, that was the day...they spoke.
It was on her 7th birthday that her father had given her a very special present, a doll crafted lovingly to her own likeness. Deidra couldn't have been happier, flinging her arms around the neck of her beloved father before taking the doll and running out upon the edge of town to play. " Happy Birthday Deidra, I am so happy to meet you at last......", the voice spoke in soft whispers as she held fast to her birthday present. Deidra looked around expecting to see one of the townsfolk or a friend expressing well wishes on her special day, however after looking behind tree and bush she found no one there. That was strange she thought, passing it off with a cheerful giggle since she guessed it had probably been one of her friends trying to play a prank and frighten her.
Days later, Deidra began experiencing problems which at the time could not be explained. Exhaustion and headaches put the poor child in bed for some time. Despite her parents having called in several different physicians, not one of them could diagnose nor treat her condition. It was a frightening experience as is, made even worse when she overheard talk that her eyes were changing and she could possibly go blind. Weak and afraid, she gripped her doll tight to find comfort. As Deidra lie there helpless, again the voice she had heard back on her birthday spoke to her again. " All is well, do not be afraid. I will watch over you...", it said more clearly than before. That night as she slept, the girls mind was haunted by strange dreams, as though she were looking down upon her own body through the eyes of another.
It was strange and without explanation, but eventually the young girls strength returned and her sight never left as her eyes had turned a solid golden hue which blanketed her pupils, If anything she found she could see things in great detail and even things no one else could see, though she never spoke of it since she had grown weary of the doctors and their seemingly endless questions. She felt great and that was enough, though the dreams never left nor the voice which was beginning to speak to her more frequently when she was alone.
One day, while playing by herself, the voice spoke again. " Are you having fun?", it spoke so plain and clear. In all this time it had never crossed Deidra's mind that she had never bothered to answer or even question the one speaking until now. " Yes I am. Who are you?" , she asked softly as her eyes darted across the empty space around her. " I am whomever you want me to be, silly.", the voice giggled softly which prompted the same from Deidra. " I cannot see you, where are you?" she asked, hugging her beloved doll across her chest as she squinted her eyes trying to see anything to prove that what she heard was real. " Are you a fairy? or an angel?", she asked. The voice chuckled again, " Tehehe, I'm right here by your heart silly. I've always been here. I can be your angel if you like?". Deidra looked down to her chest, there was nothing there but her doll which she held up now and looked into its eyes of glass. " My angel?", she questioned, eyes wide as she looked at the toy. " Yes, I would like that....Angel."
From that day, Deidra's life took a sharp turn away from a normal childhood. Already some people in the town had been avoiding her from the time she had seemed ill. She no longer saw some of her friends and others began looking at her strangely. Even her own parents seemed to look at her differently than they had. It never seemed to bother her too much, besides she had a new friend to play with and Angel promised her she would never leave. " I will always be with you, the others just don't understand. You can hear me because you are special....they are just jealous." Angel told her, assuring her that all would be fine.
5 years passed and Deidra had taken a new interest in her fathers work. Hoping that it might help her in some way, he allowed his daughter to begin helping him in the shop. She proved quickly to be a natural in carving, her eye for detail even greater than that of his own as she crafted parts and painted faces. It was not long before she was even able to craft dolls and toys of her own. To her parents she seemed to posses a precious gift, though beyond the thin walls of the shop the people outside still considered her strange. Deidra as well had since distanced herself from the townsfolk, only stepping out to play from time to time with Angel always in tow along with some of her new friends she had created with her own hands. She was happy and content no matter what everyone else thought of her.
All was well until one day Deidra was out in the forest alone with Angel, or so she thought. She had not seen one of the boys in town that followed her into the woods to see what she was doing when she went out by herself. When he found her, Deidra was sitting with her back resting against a tree with her doll, Angel, sitting across from her. She was laughing and talking with her toy just like if it were real. He watched her a few minutes before finally stepping out, " Hey, what are you doing!?", he shouted. Deidra was startled, jumping up and grabbing Angel in her arms as she looked at the boy. " Go away, leave me alone...", she replied, eyeing the boy cautiously as he took a step closer with his chest out in confidence as if he had something to prove. " People in town say your sick, some say you're cursed. My father just says you're crazy!", she said with a cruel smirk. " Run home crazy girl! I'm not afraid of you like everyone else!", he shouted at Deidra who was slowly backing away before turning to run.
Like many stupid young boys, he began chasing little Deidra through the woods. She was smaller and faster, darting through the brush and brambles that scratched her delicate skin as she ran. Picking up a fallen branch, the boy threw it at her and it hit the girl across the side of the head. Deidra cried out as she crashed to the forest floor, holding the side of her head as she wimpered and cried from the pain. Angel had slipped from her grasp and tumbled to the ground before her. The boys eyes widened when he saw what he had done. He was only trying to scare her, he never meant to actually hit her with the branch. " Hey, Hey! I'm sorry! It was an accident! are you okay? Please don't tell my father!", he shouted as he ran toward the now frightened girl. Deidra didn't comprehend anything he was yelling as she lay on the ground, reaching out for Angel. " Angel! Angel! help me please! Don't let him hurt me anymore! Please!" She cried with her hand outstretched toward her doll....her friend.
From there Deidra's thoughts grew hazy, blurred by mixed images and confusion which seemed to skew her memory. She saw what appeared as Angel, standing of her own accord. Visions flashed through her mind, images of the boy running toward her as she lay helpless upon the ground, but then suddenly he froze as though terrified and running away. The next thing she knew she was back home in her own bed with her mother by her side. Downstairs she could hear raised voices, her father arguing with another man and then the slamming of the front door. It was some time later, when her parents questioned her as to what had happened, that Deidra found out the boy that had chased her was found unconscious in the forest; a severe wound to his head with a bloody stone beside him. As for her explanation to what happened, she told her parents what the boy had done to her. A long bruise across the side of her head was proof that she had been hit by something. As for what happened to the boy, Deidra could only answer "Angel protected me." Out of concern for their daughters well being, her parents said they believed her. Once they had left her to rest, she heard that soft voice she had come to trust whisper, " They are lying to you....".
Some days later, the boy had regained consciousness and began babbling about how Deidra had tried to kill him when he had teased her so he grabbed a nearby branch to fend off her attack. No one would have believed he had been attacked by a doll would they? And of course he would not admit to having chased the girl and hitting her with a branch he threw. Even he had a difficult enough time believing what had happened. When word reached her parents, they were shocked and worried about the safety and mental state of their daughter. Several of the towns people warned them to keep their crazy daughter away from their children. Uncertain what to do about Deidra, her parents kept quiet and discussed the matter in secret....little did they know that they were surrounded by eyes and ears that were silently observing their every move.
Angel told Deidra everything, of how the boy lied about what happened and of her parents decision to keep her locked away for fear she may hurt herself or someone else. " They do not understand you, they do not understand us. We cannot let them lock you away, we cannot stay here any longer. Lets leave this place together Deidra. I will never leave you, I will never lock you away, I understand you better than anyone." Special or not, she was still only a small girl of 12 years and could not leave her parents. They had never been anything but caring and loving, surely they would not keep her locked away would they? " I can't do it Angel, I can't leave. Just be quiet and leave me alone!", Deidra shouted and flung her beloved doll across her room. Angel fell to the floor with a clatter, her voice giving way to silence. That night Deidra felt truly alone for the first time since her 7th birthday.
Just as Angel had warned, 2 years passed and Deidra was kept hidden away from the town and the rest of the world. She barely felt the sun on her face or a soft breeze save for looking down from an open window or an occasional walk outside with her parents. Even in all that time, she still caught the wary glances and stares of the townsfolk when they saw her outside. She felt trapped, imprisoned by those she loved and rejected by the town she called home. Angel sat still upon a stand at the foot of her bed, her cold glass eyes always staring patiently. She had not spoke since that day, nor had Deidra spoke to her, though it often felt like Angel was simply waiting patiently for something to change.
One day, a traveling troupe of entertainers came into town after having performed recently in a nearby city. They decided to put on a small show while they were there, the town was stirring excitement for a change. Thinking it would be a well deserved treat for their daughter, Deidra's parents took her out for an entire day to see them perform. What Deidra saw that day was amazing. Jugglers and Acrobats performing amazing feats, actors and musicians, there was even a puppeteer who put on a hilarious show. It was all so wonderful, but what's more was how happy and free they all looked. Freedom to do as they pleased, to come and go wherever and whenever they wished. It was then that Deidra came to a realization, she wanted to be free. That night as the troupe closed down and prepared to leave, Deidra looked to Angel once she was returned home. " I told you what they would do....it is time to leave this place behind you. You deserve to be free, you deserve to be happy. I know your heart. I know your desires and even your inner most secrets...". Angel spoke once more as the girl, now 14, listened. " Yes, I want to leave. I have to leave or I will die here! Tonight we will go, when everyone's asleep. I will take you and the others with me so we can be free together!" she replied with hushed excitement.
That night while the rest of the world was asleep, Deidra tiptoed through her room as she bundled what clothes she could carry and quietly slipped downstairs to a small trunk where her father had tucked away the dolls she had created herself during the short time she had helped him. She bound them all up within a sheet before returning upstairs where she would have to make her escape, the doors downstairs being under lock and key. Having fashioned a rope from bedsheets and blankets, the girl lowered the rope from her window, her belongings tied to the bottom end. Into the night she crept, seeking out the troupes caravan just on the edge of town. Save for a few who were still up and enjoying late drinks, many had retired for the night in order to rest before their early departure. Deidra climbed into the back of one of the supply wagons, hiding herself away within a narrow gap amidst some barrels, just enough for her to lie between unnoticed.
The night seemed to last forever as she lie there quietly. Deidra was feeling mixed emotions over her decision to leave her home and her parents, knowing that they had only done what they had out of love. Still, she felt she would just as well die before living her life a prisoner in her own home. The townsfolk were fools and her parents were far too weak to stand up to them for her sake, there simply seemed no other option. It was still uncertain just how the troupe would treat her once she was found or made herself known. There was a chance that they would reject her request and leave her out in the middle of no where, but that was a chance she would have to take. She still had Angel and the others by her side, and that was comforting in its on strange way.
Unable to sleep, Deidra looked up at the stars as she pondered what her new life would be like. Suddenly startled by a shadowy wave overhead, she stifled a shriek as a cloth tarp fluttered and floated down over the wagon and blocked out the night sky. Footsteps crunched across the dry ground as ropes were dragging across the tarp to cinch it in place. It seemed a little odd but the troupe was already leaving town and it was still several hours before the dawn. Too late to change her mind now, Deidra settled in for the ride ahead as the sound of hooves pounded upon the earth. With a leathery snap of the reins and a sudden jerk of the wagon, wood and iron creaks as her journey at last began. She would start her new life this night, leaving her past and memories behind as they would serve no purpose other than regret.
Deidra's eyes opened as she peered up to see the stained white cloth of the tarp above her, uncertain as to when she had dozed off or what time of day it was. She figured they would stop soon to set up camp, but much to her surprise the troupe did not stop the rest of the day, nor did they once darkness had fell. Needless to say that the call of nature could not go ignored, and an unruly stomach growling with fierce discontent finally forced the girl to make herself known as she began calling to be let out. Due to the ruckus, the wagon suddenly rolled to a halt and the tarp rolled back. Deidra darted out as fast as her feet could carry her, shouting out her apologies and pleading that they wait just a moment for her to return and explain her presence. The girls appearance drew surprise and light hearted chuckles from the wagons driver and others who soon came to see what all the fuss was about. A few moments later, the fiery haired girl came stumbled out of the edge of the dark wood, leaves and twigs entangled within her locks and a look of relief across her face.
When the girl approached the wagon from which she had burst forth from moments ago, she soon found herself surrouned by strangers and suddenly was at a loss for words. Pushing past the small crowd of people, a woman stepped forward to greet her pleasantly which seemed to ease her tension. She was stunningly tall and beautiful, golden hair braided the length of her back and skin that seemed to shimmer by the torch light. The woman introduced herself as Natalia, before proceeding to question Deidra as to why she had been hiding in their supply wagon. Deidra explained all she could to Natalia, of her desire to travel with their troupe and see the world, but of course withholding that which she wanted to forget. Natalia listened closely a bid Deidra to follow her as the others soon dispersed and loaded back to their respective places along the caravan. Natalia seemed nothing beyond understanding of Deidra's heart as she brought the girl to meet the troupes leader, a man who went by the name Max VonGeld.
VonGeld was a rather short fellow, about as tall as he was round, dressed in a formal tailed coat and tophat both golden trimmed. His cheeks and nose were a rosey shade of red, his eyes sharp and a grey pencil thin moustache rested neatly above his shifty grin. Deidra recognized the man from his performance back in town, the puppeteer who had delivered a rather entertaining show as she recalled. VonGeld first discussed the situation with Natalia before at last approaching Deidra with his decision. He eyed the young girl a moment before speaking with a deep gruff voice, " Welcome to Troupe VonGeld! Natalia here has told me everything I need to know. There's somethin about ya she seems to like, might see a bit of herself in ya! Anyway, she'll be the one you'll be ridin with and'll give ya your duties. Work hard and do as she says and things'll work out just fine!". With a tip of his hat and a hearty guffaw he waddled away back into his coach at the head of the caravan. Natalia smirked at his departure before turning back to Deidra, requesting that she follow her if she wanted some food and a fresh change of clothing.
The first few months were hard, though to be expected Deidra thought as she had turned into the troupes chore girl. Cooking, cleaning, most anything that the others just really did not want to do. It was tough work at times, but in between stops many of them were more than happy to provide a little training in their various arts. It was all quite exciting, and she was learning so much so she was sure she wouldn't be stuck as chore girl for too long. Everyone seemed quite happy and lacking for nothing, oddly enough Deidra still couldn't help but feel that something was amiss. At the end of each performance, the troupe was always eager to leave and had yet to perform in the same place twice. It would be over a year before she would find out the secrets behind the Troupe VonGeld, of course she too held secrets of her own.
One night just after the Troupe had put on a quite spectacular performance at a quite large and wealthy city, Deidra was loading costumes and props so she thought. One of the trunks seemed particularly heavy that night, suddenly tumbling to the ground with quite a clatter as her grip gave way, its contents spilling across the ground. Gems, gold and silver, all manner of trinkets and wares that clearly were not props, lay before her eyes. So was that the secret? She pondered the facts through her mind as she packed the contents into the trunk and loaded it along with the others. Deidra was not shocked or fearful of her discovery by no means it seemed, in fact it explained alot in how well off they all were and quite a good scheme they were running. Instead of keeping it to herself, she decided to confront Natalia and VonGeld on the issue personally. VonGeld was surprised somewhat when Deidra confronted him over the details of their operation, mostly because he assumed she had bound to have discovered them before now.
" So child, your tellin me this for what? Ya plannin to leave us? Yer conscience buggin ya?", he asked with a chuckle. Deidra shook her head, " Not at all, I want in. I'm tired of being chore girl for the Troupe. I want my own cut of the action!", Deidra exclaimed. VonGeld let out another of his signature guffaws with a snort at her request before proceeding to explain just how they operated. She soon found that Troupe VonGeld was more than just a clever band of thieves, but that they also took on special requests from neighboring kingdoms and nobles if they price was right. Assassinations payed extremely well at times, and they held allegiance to anyone or anything save for ample compensation for their services. The troupe shared a unique bond that could not be found among the mundane lives of townsfolk and noblemen. It was an unspoken bond of trust and freedom which allowed each and everyone to live out their lives as they chose, able to come and go as each saw fit and do as their hearts desired for the good of themselves. It was by that right that the group in turn did prosper. " Lady or Lad, Luck has been on our side for quite some time. There's always a few faces that'll come and go, but most of us here choose to ride this here adventure out until whatever day it ends, if any." VonGeld grinned. "Seems ya got a few secrets of yer own. Don't think I haven't seen ya gabbing away to those dolls, these old eyes and ears are still much sharper than ya give me credit for. I'm not sayin ya have to tell me anything, its your choice. But I have a feelin that if ya will tell me, I might be able to help ya find strength in your own special talents."
Deidra accepted the offer with little hesitation, revealing all that she knew of her strange abilities to VonGeld and Natalia alone. She trusted them more than anyone before, and they seemed quite understanding to her feelings as to why she did not want to reveal her secrets. Ultimately it was VonGeld who helped her understand the depths of her obsession with dolls and toys, helped her see the distrust she held for others in her subconscious mind. After some time, he helped Deidra to understand that her dolls were not alive per say, but rather extensions of her subconscious and in a sense acted as alternate versions of her own suppressed personalities. They were puppets, acting out the whims of their master, something VonGeld knew quite well as a master in his own right. Though Deidra's skills were far beyond anything he himself had ever acheived. She was indeed unique and special beyond normal measures, once she learned to simply accept the hand that fate had dealt her.
As time passed, the young girl flourished a grew into a woman. VonGeld and Natalia had helped Deidra to embrace and accept herself as she was, teaching her to follow only what her heart desired and ultimately unlocking potential that had been sealed away under her previous life. Deidra became one of the top members of the Troupe by her 18th birthday, her puppets able to carry out almost any task she set for them. Within VonGelds mobile shop, she was allowed to work and develop her beloved creations to her hearts content, specializing them to make them more effective for different tasks as needed. It was during this time that she developed Pride and Joy, lovingly crafting their bodies piece by piece while VonGeld could do little more than watch in astonishment as the pair of automatons took form. Whether it was stealing valuables from the local nobles housholds or carrying out delicate assassinations, Deidra took to the tasks as though it were second nature.
She no longer felt any guilt or shame for who or what she was, and in time this would lead to a partial detachment from reality and leave her sanity in question. Her sometimes cruel and sadistic methods were always hidden beneath a very childish and immature demeanor. Not once had she ever killed anyone direct by her own hands. Her puppets, although only tools of her trade they seemed, were the ones that carried out the dirty work. This, at least through Deidra's eyes and twisted logic, left her completely innocent of all crimes and atrocities; and knowing that alone was enough to deter anyone who knew her from ever crossing her path, though to her comrades in the troupe she never expressed anything beyond her friendship and a love for the occasional gag and practical joke.
Deidra stayed with Troupe VonGeld for ten exciting years, bringing smiles and laughter while in turn lining her pockets well with the wealth of unsuspecting nobles and the like, until the day finally came when the troupe's luck finally ran out. One of the members it seemed had fallen prey to the beauty of a daughter of one of their contracted targets, turning traitor to betray those he called comrades for so long. Promises of love and status among her kingdom led the man to reveal their plans. Deidra was able to pick up on the betrayal, though not before the nobles trap was already set into motion. The camp was surrounded before she could give warning to everyone, only Natalia and VonGeld himself were aware of what was taking place as the three of them were held up within his shop. It was clear that the troupe was lost, but Deidra still held her trump cards, Pride and Joy.
Reaching into a velvet pouch at her side, Deidra pulled out a pair of polished silver keys she inserted into slots upon the chests of Joy and Pride. The gears within clicked as she wound their brass hearts, giving life to their incomplete bodies as the wheels began to turn. Eyes opened, the mechanical marvels rose to their feet and stood now before their master, ready to serve. By Deidra's control, the pair crashed through the wooden door of the shop trailer to catch the guards outside by surprise. Needless to say that the sight of two seven foot, partially skeletal dolls was enough to send some of the weaker men running in fear. The mechanical duo smashed their way through the ranks to clear a path before their master. Amidst the confusion, Deidra managed to hold her concentration as Natalia helped her upon one of the horses freed from the wagons. Even VonGeld proved he could move quite swiftly when the need arose, following close behind as they all three made their escape beyond the borders of the city. Once clear, Pride and Joy continued the battle on their way to follow their fleeing master, suffering little more than scratches upon their bodies as spears and swords proved ineffective in taking down the monstrous golems. To challenge them further seemed a waste of life, leaving the remaining guards to fall back to the heart of the city.
Once they had reached a safe distance from the city, Deidra, Natalia and VonGeld sat in the darkness and discussed their future as it was clear this was the end of Troupe VonGeld. As the trio conversed with one another, two large shadowy figures came trudging through the brush. Deidra waved off the concern of her comrades, assuring them that it was only Pride and Joy returning to the side of their master. " Quite impressive my dear. Shame our journey had to come to an end this way, but it was a good run.", VonGeld said with a hint of sadness mingled in his tone. Natalia nodded in agreement, " I only wish more of us could have escaped. Damn Judeau! that filthy traitor! I hope he gets what he deserves!", she shouted her frustration through gritting teeth. Deidra remained silent, arms crossed while gazing out into the dark forest as though she were observing something. Moments later the girl burst out cackling and kicking her feet in amusement, her gaze suddenly turning to Natalia with a devilish grin. " Your wish came true! My doll is still inside so I was still able to listen at this distance. The jokes on Judeau! He will be swinging from the gallows by sunrise, the poor fool. He actually thought they would grant him status as a nobleman just because he ratted us out!", Deidra giggled impishly. Justice was served, not that she believed in justice. Judeau the traitor simply rolled the dice and came up snake eyes, nothing more.
With the odds no longer in their favor, the trio decided it best to travel on under the cover of darkness to distance themselves from the city. No doubt that sunrise would find the authorities of the realm searching for them. They continued onward together until the first light of dawn shown through the trees, the start of a new day and perhaps new beginnings. " Well, I suppose I'll be headin on, probably find my way to the nearest guild and make a new start. Probably best we go our separate ways for now.", VonGeld muttered, not his usual jovial self which was understandable given the circumstances. Natalia shook her head as she looked to VonGeld, " I'll go with you, not like I have anywhere else to go.", she replied. Behind a smile Natalia hid her grief for their lost friends and comrades as she turned her gaze upon Deidra, " And what of you? Shall you be joining us? Or will you travel off alone?" she asked. Deidra grinned and shook her head as she replied, " I am never alone. Perhaps we shall cross paths again one day, until then I bid you both farewell." With that did the young woman swing round upon her heels and casually strolled away, waving goodbye from over her shoulder. It would be the last she ever saw of Natalia and VonGeld, though their names would arise from time to time through her travels.
From that day forward, Deidra traveled freely and lived as her heart desired. It took a little time but eventually she recovered a personal stash of wealth, enough to afford her own horse drawn trailer and supplies she needed for her creations. Since then has she rambled between city and town, selling her wares and her more unique services at times to her own benefit and enjoyment. She cares little for the toils and trouble of others, as far as she's concerned they are free to fend for themselves if there is nothing for her own personal gain. As for her skills, she has had much time to improve over the years and discover even more depth to her abilities. She may side with others from time to time, satisfying her whims, however her true allegiance remains solely to herself. And now Deidra finds herself within the borders of yet another new land, the Kingdom of Etirath. Just what does luck have in store for her in these lands?
Relations:
Weapon(s):
Pride
Joy
