The sun hung low in the sky as the evening drew fast. Darkening clouds laden with rain rolled in falling upon the kingdom like a large blanket. A young girl briskly walked alone the cobbled paths of the upper district. Hoping to out run the threatening onslaught of water soon to be purged from the sky. Unfortunately, she was not as swift as she had thought and the rain began to descend upon her slow at first. She stopped in a couple of shops to maneuver out of the rain mostly and to gather directions for her desired destination. They mostly pointed her in the general direction to head in and once she managed to locate the iron horse head looming over a moderately sized building compared to the others, but to her it was just as grand. Loretta gathered her dampened skirt stained a deep maroon and hurried on over to the pub where a small stretch of roofing above the main entrance could shield her from the rain that continued to fall. Her brown curls had stuck to her skin the tips dripping droplets of water. Because of a previous incident where her clothes had been ruined, the white blouse she donned belonged to her mother and clung to her curves loosely. She was thankful it was of thick material, however the sleeves would not stay above her slender shoulders no matter how much she tugged.
She felt like a fool as she attempted to salvage what she could out of her appearance. Tying her hair back with a red ribbon, the loose strands stuck to her cheeks. She smoothed out what wrinkles appeared onto her skirt, and readjusted her sleeves only for them to slide off her shoulders again. She sighed nervously and worked up the courage to face the door. It was only then that she noticed someone had been standing there, for how long, she had not a clue. Her cheeks reddened with late embarrassment after the initial shock of finding someone there who was not before.
"H-hello."

Eoin absent-mindedly looking up from his black top hat and observed the sky. Dark clouds gathered like gnats in the heat of the summer. Grimacing, he bleak recalled a superstition his mother held about blackened clouds. 'Someone's ded, take off yer hat Eoin.' He could remember her thick forest accent so well, even after all those years. Reaching up, he removed his hat, momentarily exposing a pair of curled horns, and muttered a prayer. Replacing the top hat, he pulled forth his pipe and a match to light the old thing. The pipe's small light illuminated his shirtless form. As a Faun, he hated wearing shirts, but would often wear a jacket for 'decency' as Alek put it. Today was not one of the normal days. A couple regulars came up to the Pub as he did so, an old man and his younger, well-off son. Eoin nodded to them as they greeting him, stepping aside to let them in.
The next hour, Eoin smoked his pipe as the rain fell, letting in the occasional customer. Business was slow this day, to an unusual degree. Eoin chalked it up to just being a hard work day, that and being in the middle of the week few men and women had time to waste away at a pub. Regardless, it was certainly no surprise to see men and women rushing about in the rain. What surprised him, however, was the young woman who fled to the small alcove he stood within and began brushing herself off. Catching a glimpse of her face, Eoin's eyes went wide. She looked almost exactly like- no, as she turned towards him, his face fell as he realized she looked nothing like his sister. However, he still managed a rare smile as she greeted him with red cheeks. Regardless of not possessing familial resemblance, she was certainly cute. Nodding, he set down his pipe and inquired, "Hello, may I ask what a lovely lady such as yourself is doing out in the rain? On that note, please, come inside."
Pushing open the door, Eoin stepped aside to let Loretta into the dimly lit pub. Immediately, she'd be greeted with drunken laughter from the same two men who entered nearly an hour before. The barmaid slowly poured another set of beers for the two, trying hard to not spill it. No one else could be seen, as the few remaining in the pub where engaged in hushed conversations in various small booths that could be found lining the walls.

The shirtless rugged man, more cause to the rushing of blood to pool at her cheeks, nodded to her in greeting as he set down his pipe to inquire her of something. "Hello, may I ask what a lovely lady such as yourself is doing out in the rain? On that note, please, come inside." He had stepped aside to make room for her to pass through and as she neared him, Loretta couldn't help her curious nature and tried very much to not make it so obvious that she was gawking at his naked torso covered in scars and tattoos. She gazed up t Eoin in effort to properly speak with him rather than staring at her shuffling feet.
"I was asked to come by, unfortunately it would seem that lady luck is not on my side today, or rather just a day gone wrong." She mustered a tired smile to him and stepped inside the pub noticing the lack of patrons yet the energy of those inside filled the empty tables and booths. Once inside, Loretta politely curtsied to Eoin. "Loretta Authern, and what might your name be?"

Was this the woman Alek had spoken of a few days back? Eoin thought. Damn that woman and never being around when she was needed. Nodding, the faun took note of Loretta's wet clothes and introduced himself. "Nice to meet you, Loretta, I'm Eoin. I think Alek mentioned you coming, here-" Turning towards the bar, he called, "Ariani, leave those two idiots at the bar and take this girl into one of the bathrooms. I'll bring a spare change from the back."
The girl, a comely, dirty blonde in a splattered bartender's apron turned and responded curtly, "Aye aye caAaahhh!-" Her reply cut shirt by a swift and graceless fall straight to the floor. Snorting at the two men at the bar laughed, Eoin scowled and walked over to her, berating, "For Sympati's sake girl, would you be careful!" Gently, he reached down and hoisted her up with ease. Brushing off her shoulders as she brushed her dress, Eoin spoke while shooting a death-glare at the patrons at the bar, shutting them up. "Are you ok, dear?" When she nodded, wiping her swiftly reddening face, Eoin finished, "Good." and left to head towards the back.
Ariani walked towards Loretta and offered a half smile as she recovered from her fall, "Is noice tah meet ye. Ye can call me Ari, e'eryone else does, 'cept Eoin. Oh I can't wait til ye take over tha' bar, oi'm simply not cut out fo' it, rather go back ta' cleanin'." Half leading, half using Loretta for balance, Ariani would take Loretta to the back. She seemed nice, though she apparently possessed no manner in which to stay balanced. If Loretta were observant, she might spot the long scar on the girl's head, half-hidden by hair.

"Nice to meet you, Loretta, I'm Eoin. I think Alek mentioned you coming, here-" Loretta smiled and mumbled his name under her breath as to commit it to memory. She was good at memorization when it came to visuals, however, memorizing by ear was not her forte. "Ariani, leave those two idiots at the bar and take this girl into one of the bathrooms. I'll bring a spare change from the back."
She turned to face who Eoin was addressing and laid eyes upon a blonde maiden. Unfortunately, the girl had fallen in a graceless heap on the floor and Loretta faltered in her rush to aid the young woman. Eoin had beaten her to the girl and lifted her up with ease while scolding her. The patrons who laughed at the incident had all quieted down as Eoin glared at them. It made her glad that he did so. Not many would help and would rather join in on the fun and Loretta's heart went out to the girl. She was happy she had someone like Eoin to be there when such incidents were to arise. Perhaps if there was someone like him at the inn, there wouldn't have been much trouble to begin with.
After the two had finished their exchange while Loretta suddenly realized she had been lost in thought, Ariani had neared and smiled halfly.
"Is noice tah meet ye. Ye can call me Ari, e'eryone else does, 'cept Eoin. Oh I can't wait til ye take over tha' bar, oi'm simply not cut out fo' it, rather go back ta' cleanin'." Ari, as Loretta memorized, had placed an arm around her shoulders to lead her though she guessed it was mostly for her sake to keep herself upright as well.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Ari, please, call me Loretta or what have you." She smiled back at her while processing the rest of what she said with her heavy accent before continuing. "I would hope to be enough so as not to trouble anyone here."
With Ari so close to her, she couldn't help but notice the long scar on the girl's head somewhat hidden away by blonde locks. She kept her observations to herself and walked with her to the restrooms where she would be given a set of fresh and hopefully dry clothes to change into.
"Thank you for having me, I do apologize for making you and Eoin to go out of your way for me..." She trailed off a bit and realized she could have assumed things and that it was her fault that they had to do such bothersome things for her. "I'm sorry, forgive me. I-" she kept her mouth shut before she began to ramble and talked the poor girl's ear off.

Eoin slipped around the back, opening the locked door and locking it behind him out of habit as he did so. The back was a fairly roomy area with many tables and a private, self-serve beer bar. The only one in the back was Red Valiya, notably not at Alek's side. She nodded to Eoin as the faun walked by her and into the very back room where Alek kept private quarters. Slipping inside, he rummaged through a pile of clothes, mostly black robes and fighter's tunics, on the floor and picked up the cleanest fighting tunic he saw. Muttering about Alek being an unwoman-like slob with not a single dress, he slipped back out and towards the booth he assumed Ariani took Loretta to. Setting the clothes outside the closed door, he knocked twice and walked off towards the bar.
It wasn't that Eoin wasn't good at tending the bar, he simply couldn't cook. If this were simply a bar then Eoin believed he probably could manage it as well as keep the ruffians at bay, though that may be an overestimation of his ability. However, being a Public House, the Horse Head needed someone who could service the bar if need be and cook the food. That someone was not Eoin. Taking off his hat, he hung the thing up behind him on the beer counter. Running a hand through his messy, untamed black hair and scratching behind one of his thick, long, curved horns, he strummed a conversation with he two men at the bar. As he spoke with them, he absent-mindedly watched as the door swung open and another entered the Pub.
Back in the booth, Ariani did not hesitate to check outside the moment after Eoin knocked on the door. Grabbing up the fighter's tunic, Ariani grimaced and sighed, turning to Loretta and apologizing, "Oi'm so sorry, Miss Kostya never wears anythin' simple like a bloose, skirt or troosers, so this is all we 'ave. I swear, ev'ry time she comes in, she either wears a tunic, robe, or armor. Never anythin' normal." As she spoke, Ariani turned around to give Loretta privacy, though she'd certainly turn back if Loretta needed help. As Loretta changed, Ariani began chatting ceaselessly, talking about how much she has to cook, how she's really good when she doesn't fall, how she can't wait to just be an assistant, how nice Alek was, how much she hated being in charge. Non-stop talking.

There was a knock on the door and both Ariani and Loretta turned towards it. After Ari had gotten the solid green garment for her she faced Loretta with an apologetic look and apologized. "Oi'm so sorry, Miss Kostya never wears anythin' simple like a bloose, skirt or troosers, so this is all we 'ave. I swear, ev'ry time she comes in, she either wears a tunic, robe, or armor. Never anythin' normal." She held the tunic up at the same time with a displeased look for Loretta to see what she had meant before turning the other way. She kept it in her hand as she faced the door to give Loretta some privacy yet stayed with her in case of a need for assistance. Loretta listened with a smile as she removed her wet garments. Even her under skirt had become wet! With a tsk, Loretta stripped down bare leaving her undergarment for decency sake before taking the tunic. She placed it over her head and let it slip down her slender figure. The sleeves ended loosely around her mid-arm whilst the skirt part reached just above her knees. It was obviously meant for a body larger than her but she would take it over wet clothes any day. The collar sat on her tiny shoulders and the tunic stayed on her like a formless short dress, or just a very over-sized tunic. ALL the while, Ari had spoken to her non-stop about the amount of food she had to cook, how well she worked when she had no slip-ups, how much happiness it brought her that she would no longer be in charge and only wished to be the assistant, and spoke highly of how nice and good Alek was to her. It was incredulous of the amount of talk she was capable of in a single breath, and that brought a smile on her face.
"How does it fit?" She asked wondering if she looked just as bad and ridiculous as she pictured in her mind like a child wearing her parents' clothing. Ari turned around and placed a finger upon her pursed lips. If Eoin had brought a belt, it would make the tunic fit better in her opinion. She voiced her thoughts and Loretta removed the long red ribbon from her hair. "Would this help?"
Ari took the ribbon and stood behind Loretta wrapping the cloth around her small waist. Tying it into the most tiniest of bows, the ribbon accentuated the tunic giving it form. "Aye, now 'at looks loovely on ye." She grinned and Loretta thanked her and fixed what she could of her still dampened curls. Ari gathered the wet clothes to hang them up to dry and Loretta had gone back to the front only to stop dead in her tracks, fear riddling her face, as she saw a familiar face she did not wish to see this day of all days: Gladys from the inn had entered The Horse Head.

"Ugh, this is an upper district bar? Who runs this slop mistaken for an establishment?" The woman immediately began berating the place, even to the point of likely incorrectly naming it on purpose, the moment she entered. Eoin, muttering under his breath something about 'the second I leave the door,' stepped in front of the woman and snorted angrily. "That would be me, and who might you be?" Wrinkling up her nose, the woman began to berate Eoin for even daring to speak to her, "Get out of my face you disgusting animal, things like you should be locked up and kept in cages. Now where is- LORETTA!!"
At that moment, Gladys noticed that Loretta emerged from the back with Ariani. She immediately began shouting and advancing towards Loretta, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING HERE IN THIS WHOREHOUSE?! WHAT SORT OF SLUTTY STRUMPET OUTFIT ARE YOU WEARING?! YOU'RE COMING WITH-" At that moment, Eoin had advanced on Gladys, gripped her shoulder, turned her around, and smashed his fist into the woman's face. His knuckles coming away as blood spurted from her nose, Eoin didn't even give the woman a chance to shout and react before he reared back on one leg and slammed his hoof into her stomach. The kick was not strong enough to break ribs, though Eoin could certainly do that if he tried, but it was enough to knock the wind out of the woman while Eoin drug her to door like a ragdoll. Without a second thought, he tossed the woman out the door and into the mud and rain and yelled at her, "Don't ploughing come back to my Pub, you filthy degenerate!" Slamming the door shut, Eoin shook himself and seemed to be immediately composed, as though the interaction was no different than a loud conversation.
Nearly every patron in the Pub had turned away from their various booths and watched the interaction. Eoin waved them off, dismissing their curiosity, "Show's over, go back to your meals." They did, but not out of fear. Rather, out of the simple fact that, indeed, the show was over. Turning to Loretta, the Faun scratched his nose and apologized, "Well, if that is who I thought it was, then I apologize that you're probably fired. If it makes you feel better, we won't make you do a trial run, we'll hire and train you. I'm sorry, dear."

"LORETTA!!"
Loretta flinched out of habit and stepped back slowly at first and further away from Gladys. She felt her back pressed up against the wall as tears began to pool, her heart nearly beating out of her chest! Gladys was almost upon her raging mad and before Loretta could cower into the wall, Eoin had intercepted and took hold of Gladys, the beastly woman, and had her turned about and knocked back as fist greeted face. Loretta peered through her fingers, her instinctual defense being to hide behind thin arms and hands, and watched in trepidation as Eoin slammed a ..hoof? It was then that she took a good hard look at Eoin. No longer wearing his top hat, she could see long curved horns protruding from his head. Indeed, he stood on hooved feet! A pleasant surprise it was. The first non-human Loretta has ever had the chance to meet. Eoin had drugged the woman out and it was then that she realized something. After this incident, she would more than likely be fired at the inn.. and very much unwelcome there as well.
"Don't ploughing come back to my Pub, you filthy degenerate!"
Loretta had lowered her arms to her sides and lifted her head up. She watched Eoin shake himself off and noted his calm and composed state as if this was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Show's over, go back to your meals." The few patrons still here had all returned their attention back to what they were doing earlier. Eoin faced Loreta scratching his nose looking almost apologetic.
"Well, if that is who I thought it was, then I apologize that you're probably fired. If it makes you feel better, we won't make you do a trial run, we'll hire and train you. I'm sorry, dear."
Loretta shook her head, he needn't apologize. "No.. I'm sorry that it happened at all.." She chewed her lower lip before continuing. "It's my fault she acted out so." She lowered her head sullenly and gripped the fabric that laid on her thighs. "It shouldn't have happened."

Eoin scratched his head, wondering why he even cared that this woman probably just lost her job. The faun never gave a rat's ass about humans and their petty lives, they lived for so little after all. Before he realized what he was doing, he found himself replying, "No, really it was my fault. How about this, you work here and I'll make this up to you by-" Er- what would he offer? He didn't own anything valuable. Racking his brain, he finished with the first thing that popped into his head, "Buyin' you dinner, perhaps? If ye'd like that." His voice slipped and his accent escaped, betraying his nervousness.
Thankfully, he was able to keep the scowl he always kept on his face as he asked. There was only so much he was willing to put up with when it came to his body betraying him. What the hell, he thoughy, why do I feel like I owe her anything? I mean, dinner would be nice and all, and she's cute.
Shaking his head, he sighed and waited for her response. All the while, Ari stood with baited breathe. The girl was inwardly screaming 'squee!' But she didn't want to ruin the moment.

"No, really it was my fault. How about this, you work here and I'll make this up to you by-" Loretta could tell Eoin was at a loss for words as something crossed his mind and felt bad that he's going through the trouble to make up for the possibility (most likely) over the loss of her job. "Buyin' you dinner, perhaps? If ye'd like that." There was something in the subtle dip of his voice and a slip of an accent that brought a smile to her face. Even though he held a scowl, there was a lighter tone when he spoke. Unfortunately, she was conflicted. She didn't want to come off as ungrateful and rude but at the same time not to trouble him more than she already has. Not to mention this was the first time anyone outside of her family had offered her a meal free of charge. Looking straight up at Eoin, the hint of a smile tucked away in the corner of her lips, she took the job offer.
"If you'll have me, I would love to work here, but please don't feel as if you owe me something. If anything at all, I should be owing you for the favor you've done. I'm grateful, really I am. That woman was a terror all around. As for dinner.." Her cheeks tinted to a rosy color at the thought of dining with him alone. "I couldn't possibly. I've caused you so much trouble already."

She just refused him, what. Although it didn't show on Eoin's face, a small part of him was incredulous. Taking over that incredulity, however, was defiance. No, he was not going to accept no as an answer. He just offered her a apology dinner, he didn't apologize or do anything for anyone. While behind Loretta, Ariani's mouth dropped, her own disbelief open on her face. Flashing her a 'stow it' glance, Eoin shook his head and shoulders, replying.
"No, that's, mhm." wringing a hand, he crooked his head and flicked back his deer-like ears, previously hidden by both hat and hair. "It's not just an apology, I want to take ye to dinner and I'm goin' to and that's that." Something about being told 'no' made Eoin want her all the more. It was not a lust, nothing of the sort, rather, it was an intense desire to know more about this beautiful girl. He didn't feel this way about anyone else and never had before. Frankly, it pissed him off in a weird way.
"So, we close Sundays, so tomorrow you'll come by and we'll have a meal here. I'll cook." At that, he donned his top hat and began walking back towards the door. He wasn't going to force Loretta to be there, but he certainly hoped she would be.

"No, that's, mhm." No? No to what? Confused Loretta tilted her head to the side slightly as she waited for him to continue. "It's not just an apology, I want to take ye to dinner and I'm goin' to and that's that." The aggression in his undertone was picked up by Loretta and what he had said clicked with her. It was more than a pity dinner. Her face had warmed as the tips of her ears flushed a bright red! Her heart rate sped up as a fluttery sensation tingled around her stomach area. He, a complete stranger who had stood up for her, wanted to know about her more.
"So, we close Sundays, so tomorrow you'll come by and we'll have a meal here. I'll cook." With that said and done, Eoin replaced his hat upon his head hiding away his deer-like ears beneath. Turning away from her, he walked back to his original outpost at the entrance leaving Loretta with Ari who had been screaming internally all the while.
"Oh ye must! Ye must goo, Lorrie!" Ari had clasped her hands on Loretta's arms from behind as she bounced excitedly as she made excited noises that scared Loretta to some degree. "Never 'ave I seen Eoin be this way!"
"What do you mean?" Loretta asked curiously. Did she mean that Eoin was not the polite gentleman she had made him out to be? Someone who cared for others and their well being?
"Well fer one thing, 'e's never asked a girl ahht ter dinner befare. Not once in me time 'ere." It was then hat Ari began talk like she had when she changed in the other room before. She spoke of everything about the Faun as Loretta had come to learn about him. While she talked the two had walked over to the small bar where Ari went on and on about Eoin and went over every little detail she could muster into Loretta who smiled all the while she spoke. Listening to Ari speak about Eoin in such a way, it was almost as if he was an entirely different person! It pleased her a bit that someone thought of her as special, something she's never had the chance to feel before.
And so for the time being, Ari helped Loretta with where to find things and such along with the responsibilities she would then possess as the new barmaid.
