Willem began to chuckle to himself to which Loretta curiously stared. Was what she said funny? Perhaps it was but she wouldn't know how.
"No. I have too much body to be cold," he joked. How interesting.. Too much body to be cold? Did he mean because he was bigger and taller that he couldn't feel the cold like she did? Perhaps she should find a way to plumpen herself up to avoid the biting cold.
"Are you cold? I have heat to spare if you need it." To share his heat, she would need to.. her face began to warm at the thought. "Forgive me. I mean't nothing improper by that."
"R-right.. Of course!" She stammered. The gesture was appreciated but she couldn't possibly. He was a shirtless stranger still. "A t-tempting offer, Willem." She managed to say. She wrapped her cloak tightly around her and hid her face in the white curly fur. As much as she would like to be warmed, the two were not lovers. She will respect his space as he respected hers. If only she lived closer..

"A t-tempting offer, Willem."
That response made him chuckle. It was a deep soft sound like listening to a hear beat through someone's chest or knocking on a tree trunk. He could hear the flustered tremble in her voice so decided to let the topic drop like the heavy silent of the surrounding fields and rustic homes. Lamp light no longer guided them. Only their memory and familiarity with the area would lead them home. Golden lights from homes near and far dotted the purplish black horizon like fallen stars. Each window revealed a warm kitchen or a comfortable living room to fit a modest living. Willem smiled to himself as they passed his own home. The two kept walking without pause but he managed to sneak a glance through the living room window. Corianne was sitting in his chair, as she knew she wasn't allowed to while he was home. Dinner would've been served a while ago but the fire was still low and steady to keep the house warm.
Willem faced the road ahead once more when his neck couldn't pivot any further. He'd be home soon anyway, he thought. Another hundred footfalls off the dirt roads and into grassy fields they arrived at a little homestead with two front-facing windows and a crooked doorway. The window were too small to see through but light flickered inside of them just the same. It was quaint.. nice. About fifty feet away Willem stopped. Was there a husband waiting inside? Was there a family who would be off-put by the fact that a stranger walked her home? The answer was unclear. Whatever waited inside the earthen walls of Loretta's home deserved to stay under a veil of normalcy. She walked herself home alone as always.
"This is where I go, Miss Loretta."

She couldn't help the smile that came forth as she listened to his hearty chuckle. They had long since traveled past the cobbled road and continued onward on the familiar dirt road they knew so well. The quiet that followed was nice. It was even nicer when shared. Distant glows in the dark marked the sparse housing of the rural district. Fields and plots of land separate the neighbors.
The night sky is always beautiful in the rural areas. All the stars shine brightly out in the open versus looking up within the middle and upper districts. She loved the little things in life that not many appreciate nor find pleasure in in their busy lives. The starry night sky held her gaze captive for the time being. She almost had nearly forgotten Willem was beside her.
Loretta looked to the rising hill with a tiny home beside trees on top. A welcomed sight indeed as she imagined the warmth it would bring. Willem stopped a ways away and Loretta turned curiously, wondering why he stopped so suddenly.
"This is where I go, Miss Loretta."
She nodded in understanding, Had they already pass his home? They probably had and she missed it. Before she turned away to walk up the slightly raised ground, she thanked Willem with a smile.
"Thank you for escorting me home, Mr. DeCarlisle.. is there a way I could repay your kindness?"

Willem shook his head and folded his hands behind his back. "The thought is appreciate, but unnecessary. If you insist on repaying me in any way, I only ask that you consider your safety," he said. His voice was low and soft to avoid drawing suspicion from inside. "There is always a guard that will be willing to walk you any distance. If they aren't, you be sure to tell me."
Of that he had no doubt. It wasn't hard to believe that the majority of the Etirath guard joined the Academy to earn favor with the ladies. Honor and justice be damned if a fine-haired beauty would flash them a smile for their services. Loretta would be no exception to this. She was a fine young woman with plenty of appeal. What are you thinking, Willem?! You get the point, now get ahold of yourself. The captain shifted on his feet nervously with a strategically placed cough. "That is," he started to add without knowing what provoked him, "if I'm not around to walk you myself."
His cheeks puffed out with a long whooshing exhale as he ran a hand through his thick hair. "What i mean to say is.. I work most night shifts," he explained. "If you visit the baths at night often, I can be there for you." What in Abandon's name was that supposed to mean? "Not there in the bath- There, to walk you home afterward," he hastily corrected. "I..." This stumbling mess had gone on far too long, he thought. So he straightened up and tried to repair what was left of his respectable image. Then, he bowed toward her. "I believe I've said more than enough for one evening. Goodnight, Miss Loretta."
With that.. the bumbling oaf of what used to be a captain took his silent leave.

"The thought is appreciate, but unnecessary. If you insist on repaying me in any way, I only ask that you consider your safety," He spoke quietly, but Loretta heard every word over the soft hums of the nocturnal back noise. "There is always a guard that will be willing to walk you any distance. If they aren't, you be sure to tell me."
Loretta smiled at his offer and patiently waited for him to continue with anything else he wished to say before she would speak of her gratitude. He seemed to need to clear his throat as he coughed before he spoke again. "That is, if I'm not around to walk you myself."
Before she had the chance to speak Willem had beat her to the punch and continued with his offer which only made her smile widen. "What i mean to say is.. I work most night shifts," he elaborated. "If you visit the baths at night often, I can be there for you." Oh? Surely he wouldn't.. "Not there in the bath- There, to walk you home afterward," he corrected himself hastily breaking Loretta's train of thought. "I..." A small giggle escaped from the bemused girl to which Willem straightened himself up in preparation to leave as a bow followed after. "I believe I've said more than enough for one evening. Goodnight, Miss Loretta."
As he turned to leave, Loretta called out to him with a large smile upon her face.
"Thank you again Mr. DeCarlisle! I'll be sure to consider your offer in the future!" She waved her goodbye and turned away herself to finally make her way inside her home and soon turned herself in for the night.
