Aleksandria walked slowly into the well stocked shop known as 'Silva's Sundries.' Her visit this early Saturday morning was two fold, she needed a special runestone for summoning restrictions, and she wished to inquire about land purchasing. Not one to waste time, she sought to do both at the same place.
The stone was fairly simple in design, the only difficulty was that Aleksandria needed it to have been made at the college of magic. Such a place she avoided like the plague, preferring to keep her magical skills as secret as possible. Looking through a small box of runestones, she glanced about for the shop owner.
Aleksandria was glad she was not wearing her full plate, but rather just the undergambeson over a light shirt and trousers. It was a hot day.

The Saturday morning bustled with activity as Loretta walked up the paved paths that lead to middle district's market place. It was a particularly hot day and she in kind donned her white low cut peasant shirt tucked into her blue skirt with a black underbust corset. An empty woven basket hung at the crook of her tanned arm. A warm breeze tickled her half-tied up curls, as the sky blue ribbon holding her waves back flapped idly in response. The rythmic clacking of heels meeting stone had a calming effect on her as she reached Silva's sundries. She intended to do some early shopping for lunch and possibly dinner with the fresh items still there.
Upon approaching the stand, Loretta proceeded to make her way over to the food section and stopped before the pile of fruit stacked in angled crates. She wonderd if she could make a proper meal solely on apples. Surely she could make apple cider and apple sauce or possibly apple pie. Sun baked apples or apple stew sounded appetizing enough. Perhaps she could make an apple salad? They did have a small vegetable garden round the back of their house but most of it is used for bartering.
She then looked over the meat section, and sighed as she thought about the many meals she could make with venison, rabbit legs, or even chicken breasts. But alas, she could only budget for fruit and bread. She returned to the fruits and looked over her choices again. The amount of coins she held in her skirt pocket was enough to purchase a dozen apples. But she would also buy a loaf of bread, the equivalent to 4 apples. But what to do..
To those near Loretta, they would find her to be truly lost in thought as her gaze had gone beyond that of the apples.

Silva - a tanned, leathery, wrinkly woman - was rearranging stock behind her counter when the two customers had started skimming through her wares. One she recognized, a young woman who had frequented the shop for produce and groceries mostly. The other was a stranger. Of course, she may have been into the shop before, but Silva's aging memory couldn't make room for every passing face she'd ever seen under her roof. Her late husband was better with faces, anyway... Packing away her last box and surfacing feelings of sadness, Silva pulled down her sleeves and approached the woman who had arrived first. On her way toward Aleksandria, Silva passed Loretta. Her thin, sun-spotted hand lifted to wave at the girl.
"I'll let ya' have them apples for a cheap price if ya' buy more'tn five, milá."
Silva didn't stop to wait for a response. She knew that the girl would be interested in the offer, and more than likely bring it up when she wanted to pay for her purchase. Who's milá, you ask? Milá is a learned term from lands to the west of Etirath, where Silva's husband was born. After they'd married and started to move across the different realms, he would use small terms and phrases to remind himself of home. Now she used them to remind herself of her husband.
"Oy, miss. How can I help ya today?" The gray-haired elder knotted her fingers together, ready to assist, as she approached Aleksandria.

Aleksandria found her stone fairly quickly, examining the small, runed item, she smiled on the inside and turned around to search for the owner of the shop. Immediately, she was greeted by said owner, a kindly looking older woman. Holding out the stone, she nodded and asked, "Yes, I'd like to know how much this stone is? It's just a little trinket that caught my eye." Glancing past the older woman, Alek continued while focusing in on Loretta, "I'd also like to know where I would need to go to buy up some land in the marketplace, I know this isn't the proper place for that but seeing as you've clearly been an owner here for a while, I thought you might know. If you don't that's understandable."
Aleksandria was half listening for the woman's answer, half looking over at the woman examining apples. Once Silva responded, Alek would simply nod and walk towards Loretta. Stepping next to the woman, Aleksandria spoke in a kind voice, one that did not come naturally to her. "Good day, please don't see me as too forthcoming, but I must say you are very beautiful. Have you sought any interest in perhaps in bartending? It's quite an easy thing to learn." The red haired woman wasted no time, she felt no need to, there were other things on her mind just as important as this interaction.

Loretta saw Silva wave to her on her way to help another guest. She responded in kind waving with her free hand and smiled genuinely.
"I'll let ya' have them apples for a cheap price if ya' buy more'tn five, milá."
More than five? She pondered how much she could get for six. Perhaps she could purchase a loaf of bread and oats as well?
"Good day, please don't see me as too forthcoming, but I must say you are very beautiful. Have you sought any interest in perhaps in bartending? It's quite an easy thing to learn." A red haired woman had spoken to Loretta as she was pulled from her thoughts. A blush had formed delicately across her features from the given compliment. "I- thank you miss," she shyed a step away only to look back at her at the mentioned position. "I have work as a barmaid at the inn within the middle district. "

Aleksandria gently smiled as Loretta replied, acting surprised upon hearing that she wore in the middle district. Hand on her hip, she leaned back and remarked, "Just the middle district? That's ridiculous that someone in the Upper District hasn't hired you yet."
Pausing a moment, Aleksandria seemed to contemplate something before speaking, "Ok, I don't tell this to everyone because I need to kept secret. But I'm opening a bar myself in the Upper District and, frankly, I haven't found anyone who looks like they'd do well in the position of tending. Are you given much authority at your bar? Are you paid much?" Alek's tone changed to one of seriousness, but not unkindness. It was the tone of a woman who looked to be talent scouting.

"I- uhm.. excuse me?" bewilderment took hold as the red-head indirectly complimented her. Before Loretta could say anything else, the woman spoke once more asking for her credentials. "I- no.. authority is had with the barman. I am only to serve food and clean." she hesitated a moment before continuing on with the last question. It was obvious this is a touchy subject as she was visibly tense. "I.. get by with what I receive day to day." she concluded a bit low in tone. Her cheeks warmed to a rosy color as she realized what she not only done but said to a complete stranger. It embarrassed her how she easily admits her lowly status to another who planned to make their business in the upper districts.

Alek crooked her head a bit, she could detect the hint of embarrassment in her tone when mentioning her social and financial status. True, she only said she 'gets by' day to day, but Alek knew exactly what that meant. The older woman leaned against the wall and decided this girl would be her mark.
Looking one way, then the other, Alek spoke nonchalantly, "Well, if you ever decide you'd like to do better than day to day, come find me. I know how hard it is living day to day, and I also know it's best to take the opportunities to get out of those situations as soon as possible.
The bar will be called 'The Horse Head.' You'll find it in the Upper District next week, stop by anytime and ask for Alek. I'll give you a trial run first without making any commitments, if you'd like, miss-?" Her voice trailed off, leaving Loretta to fill in the blanks.

"Well, if you ever decide you'd like to do better than day to day, come find me. I know how hard it is living day to day, and I also know it's best to take the opportunities to get out of those situations as soon as possible." Loretta nodded in understanding taking the words to heart. If she could move up in the world, she could very well help her family live more comfortably. Perhaps they won't have to work too much or too hard and maybe the little ones can receive an education they never got?
"The bar will be called 'The Horse Head.' You'll find it in the Upper District next week, stop by anytime and ask for Alek. I'll give you a trial run first without making any commitments, if you'd like, miss-?"
"Loretta.." she began before deciding to give her full name to the kind woman willing to give her an opportunity to a better life. She straightened herself up and smiled genuinely before curtsying in greeting and confidently spoke up in a clear voice. "Loretta Authern, ma'am."

Aleksandria nodded in response when Loretta gave her full name. A small part of her felt out of place, being curtsied to. She was used to being yelled at, to yelling back, to people hopping at attention when she walked in a room and to people needing a bit more 'forceful' wakeup call. But to have one curtsy to her, it was strange, she did not dislike it.
Giving a small bow in return, she gave her own full name, "I'm Aleksandria Kostya. A pleasure to meet you, Loretta. I'll remember your name."
At that, they parted ways, hopefully to meet again soon.
